Oral thrush problems in newborn

Following on from my Daktarin thread, my 4 week old has been treated with same for 3 weeks now, with no shifting of the white spots in his mouth at all. I ended up with a severe infection in my milk ducts which is being attacked with Fluconazole (and topically with Daktarin cream) but we're doing everything possible to avoid cross infection - tricky when BF.

My question is, does anyone know how long it should take to shift the white spots? When my older son had this starting at the same age (1 week) it only took a week or so to shift - but this time I had IV antibiotics in labour which seems to have created a much more severe case of it.

No point asking the GP as she knows bloody nothing about it, and has told me that I should just switch to formula and that I didn't look too sore (common with thrush even though it's like feeding broken glass) .

I'm not sure but the breastfeeding thread ladies would probably know.
