Dental question about first adult teeth

DS (5.5) has lost his first milk tooth (lower right central incisor) and the new tooth is coming through mostly nicely, although a little wonky. His lower left central incisor is very wobbly and has been for several weeks, but the new tooth there is coming through behind the milk tooth (quite a way through already).

It's not bothering him at the moment and he has a dentist's appointment booked in... umm... October, I think, anyway. Is this something that I can safely leave until then or should I take him to see the dentist now? Is there even anything a dentist can do at this point, other than encourage the wobbly tooth out?

Apart from that, I suspect I need to start saving now for the hideously expensive orthodontic treatment he's almost certainly going to need in his teens...

Thanks!

Come to think of it, one of my front teeth was very wonky and out of line when it came through, but it had more-or-less sorted itself out by my teens (it's still a little wonky I can feel with my tongue that it doesn't quite line up but it's not visibly out of position). So maybe DS's will do the same.

I think that it is normal if they come through a bit behind. One of my DDs had this, but it sorted itself out when the the old tooth came out.

it's normal, the dentists i work for have told me to tell any parents who call about this not to worry! Hth.

Ah, thank you all. Marvellous -- Mumsnet knows everything!

Both of DS1's bottom front teeth came through like this. The adult teeth were pretty much fully grown before the milk teeth fell out. The adult teeth them moved forward into the gap.
