16m DS refusing to sleep...

DS used to giggle when we put him to bed, but in the last week he is having tantrums and trying to crawl up the wall/ out of cot. He's dropped his morning nap recently too. He's fallen asleep after 15 mins of SCREAMING tonight, after milk, teeth, story/cuddle - same routine as always - and he was dropping asleep on me, as soon as in cot all he'll breaks loose. Any advice please? Really did not want to do CC or CIO but do I have to?

I have problems with my ds but not really with putting him to bed now its just later on for me, anyway the best way for me to get my ds to settle was that i bought him a glow worm it's a toy that lights up and plays music (nursery rhymes) you can get it from toys r us not expensive and basically i turn the light off and sing all the nursery rhymes to him, I started this because after finding it really easy for ages to get him to settle with a basic routine he started getting fussy at night so i just thought he might be getting a bit bored of the old routine and just decided to keep the same thing going but extend it a little with the songs it worked a treat and now he knows when the last song comes on that i'm going downstairs and he says night night!

Fifteen minutes of messing about and yelling a bit is probably not too bad in the grand scheme of things. He's warm, safe, fed, clean... put him in his cot with a 'night night' and quietly leave. It's not 'controlled crying' if they're not distressed... It's just sensible

Might he be needing to move to one nap a day, after lunch? Try giving him an early lunch at 1130 ish, and putting him down for a nap 1230 ish. Hopefully he'll sleep for a couple of hours then, have a good afternoon and evening, and then be ready for bed at bedtime. Worked with our ds when we were in the same position as you. Good luck

Damn teeth - had the exact same problem with my DD (14 months) who had been sleeping through the night since 5 weeks old. Suddenly started screaming when we put her down, day or night. Hey presto - one top tooth came through this week and the other is showing in the gum.

That's 4 teeth - only a few more to go Hmm!!

Oh I feel for you, ds only has 4 left to get thank god.
