sleep regression

DD is not 5mth and 2wks. Until June she used to sleep from 8:30pm until 6am. Then in early June things changed and she started waking up at midnight and then at 3am. By end of June she dropped the midnight wake-up and would only get up at 3am. Now she has started again waking up at midnight and then after the 3am wake-up will not go back to sleep for a long time.

We usually put her to sleep at 8:30pm-9:00pm after a very long feed.

Is this normal to have sleep regression at 4 months and then nearly 6mths ago? is it a growth spurt?

I found that 'food' was often at the root of sleep changes. Hungry babies tend to have more disturbed nights and 6 month-olds (who are more active) need more energy than 3 or 4 month-olds. I supplemented the last feed of the day with a pretty rib-sticking combination of mashed banana and baby rice. Worked like a charm

It is true that when dd has woken up at midnight she has been really hungry. We have started the weaning process and dd is eating pureed apple in the morning. We will be starting vegetable broth and baby rice in 10days time so we shall see what happens then. I suppose in the mean time we will just have to hope for a miracle!

Seriously, try the well-mashed banana with the last feed (the baby-rice stopped it being too liquid). You only need half a banana and the 'slow release' nature of the energy provided means they have a full tummy and therefore sleep for hours.
