10 year-old... light out at 9pm. Up again around 6.30am.

TheCrackFox · 20/07/2010 21:12

9 yr old - lights out at 9pm and up about 7.30ish.

Acanthus · 20/07/2010 21:12

Both at 9. They do this by themselves, we leave them to read all ready to sleep at 8.30. They get up at ten to eight but usually wake about 7 (the elder one) and 7.30 (the younger).

cory · 20/07/2010 22:23

about 9; up between 7 and 7.30

donnie · 20/07/2010 22:25

8.30 is lights out for our 8 year old.She wakes up around 7.15am.

Tortoise · 20/07/2010 22:28

10Yr old 8.30-9pm.
Up around 7.30 sometimes needs waking!

serenity · 20/07/2010 22:30

10 and 12 yo (share a room) - bed at 8, lights out at 9pm. 12yo gets up at 7, 10yo gets up at 7.30am

6.9yo, bed at 8, lights out at 8.30, up at 7.30 (although sometimes gets up at 7 when she hears her brother moving about)

hobbgoblin · 20/07/2010 22:32

My 10 year old is in bed by 8.30 to 9pm and asleep very soon after. She wakes any time between 6 and 7.30am

The 9 year old is the same but is ready for bed first out of all the DC and often very sleepy at 8.30pm whilst the others faff around. He will sometimes wake before 7 but will equally often will have to be woken at 7.45am

dearprudence · 20/07/2010 22:33

8yo - In bed about 8.45, read until just after 9. He often doesn't go to sleep until nearer 10 though - although all he does is lie in bed.

Wakes naturally around 7.15 - 7.45.

Lynli · 21/07/2010 01:22

9 year old. In bed 7.30 lights out at 9 up at 7.30 school days.

I don't know. I'm so exhausted I try to go to bed by 9pm and at that point I don't have the energy to argue with them about lights out (they are settled in their rooms by 9pm). Sometimes they still have lights on past 10pm.

I wake them up and they are usually groggy to start with but they are doing okay about getting ready in morning after that (no more nagging than ever), so it all works reasonably well for us.

Very difficult this time of year with long light evenings to get any of us to bed early.

thanks all.it would seem we're not madly out of kilter. it's slipped a bit recently and we're trying to do that thing that's virtually impossible (and, I know, ill-advised, unfair etc etc) of clawing it back. it had got to 9.25 for the 8 year old and 9.45 for the 10 year old - and we've just imposed a new ruling of 9.15 and 9.30 - much to their utter horror, of course. they get up about 7.50. one more groggily than the other

Ds is almost 8 and goes to bed about 8pm - except for 2 nights when he has karate and it's between 9 and 10pm which is far too late for him because he gets quite grumpy the morning after but would be much grumpier if he wasn't allowed to go to karate!! He's up between 6 and 7am.

Bedtime has turned into quite a battle recently. I'm letting things stay as they are for now but before school starts again I'm going to have think of a new plan. I like the idea of having reading time before lights out. I try and read with ds for 15-20mins before lights out but maybe I could let him have another 10-15mins to read something else.
