ds is 13wks old, but was 5wks early. he has awful awful colic and its getting worse. started out a few hours in the evening but now it's most of the day and night, i'd been hanging on for the 3months mark when it'd start to get easier but everday it lasts longer and he screams louder. i'm starting to give up hope it's too much.
i'm bf'ing, tried cutting out dairy, spices and herbs. kept an eye on everything i eat and nothing seems to make any difference.
tried infacol and gripe water to no effect. drinking camomile tea and taking to cranial massage soon.
hv says try colief but wondered if there was anything else that worked the same way that could be administered directly?
hv says another week and we'll see about testing for silent reflux as it's just getting worse and i'm really struggling. sometimes i wish something would happen to me i'd be hurt so badly i wouldn't have to do this anymore. can't make it stop.

I would be getting gaviscon from GP to see if it is silent reflux, we have had it from 5 weeks! As you have cut dairy that shoul have had the same efect as teh colief as it effectively digests the lactose for them, but if you had cut all dairy for at least 2 weeks they wouldnt have been getting the lactose!
Good luck though xx

Hey,

we had a very colicky baby, i totally sympathise with you. We too tried cranial osteopathy and it did work for us. It gets expensive but it was well worth it.

KEEP on at them for help and answers. It did get a little easier when we started solids. My gp offered me soya milk but i did not use it. I ended up with post natal depression thro baby constantly crying and not sleeping.

It hard and you tired but keep going.

there is lactose in breastmilk which is what the colief will break down if you decide to use it. I dont think there are any other products that do the same job. You would have to express some milk, add the colief to it, give it to your lo and then breastfeed as normal.

well i'm definately going to give colief a go. hv was about cranial massage but i'll give anything a go at this point.

Completely sympathise. Everyone tells you that it won't last for long but at the time you can't face another hour let alone a few more weeks.
With my 2 the best thing was to give them a drink of cooled boiled water after each feed, so might be worth a try band I hope things get better soon.

Really sorry you're going through this. I had a similar baby. I failed to BF and we found that Dr Brown's bottles and warm comfort formula were good at stopping him gagging/possetting and screaming.

This also had the advantage of meaning that it wasn't just down to me to deal with him. I also have PND but made a difference not being 'in it alone'. I'm not trying to push the formula option but 'wanting to be hurt so badly you don't have to do this anymore' is indicating that something needs to give.

The other things that helped us were sling/swaddling/chriropractor.

I now have a really happy little chap (7mo) but they were dark days in the beginning.

DS2 had colic when he was very young, 2 -6 weeks I would say.

I was mixed feeding and so changed his formula from SMA to Aptamil and also gradually cut down on his breast milk. The screaming was doing my head in and I had to try something!

By the time he was just on Aptamil he was much improved, but we still had to let him cry in his cot for a bit before he would go to sleep. By the time he was 8 weeks ish, he was a different baby. No colic at all, and much more relaxed.

We tried infacol and baby gaviscon, but TBH it was the change in milk that really settled him.

Am very sorry for you. It is a nightmare having a screaming baby and absolutely exhausting. Hope things improve soon
