DH suggested it for DS2 due in November, I do like it, not sure if i love it tho as it can't be shortened to anything but it is the only name that we have remotely agreed on so far. It would go well with DS1's name as he also has an Irish name.

Would love some second opinions on the name

thanksx

It can be shortened to Derry. I know an elderly one.

I like it and the nn Derry too.

Personally I'm not keen, but there's nothing wrong with it.

I like it - and Derry as a nn is lovely.

bigbluebump · 07/07/2010 09:41

I quite like Dermot. Masculine, simple and not overused. Derry would be a cute nickname.

valiumSingleton · 09/07/2010 15:25

I used to know a lovely Dermot when I was 20ish.

I much prefer Diarmuid to be honest.

ludog · 09/07/2010 16:31

Why do names have to be shortened?
I love Dermot BTW

Rockbird · 09/07/2010 17:40

Prefer Diarmuid as well but Dermot is ok.

biglips · 09/07/2010 17:40

no

mathanxiety · 09/07/2010 21:22

I like Diarmuid and Dermot, maybe Diarmuid a bit better.

Daragh or Dara are lovely too, and Derry would actually be a better nn -- the names refers to the oak tree, Derry city being named originally after an oak grove.

O'Leary.Phroaagh.

I like it. Dermot doesn't need to be shortened imo.
