After a previous post from this morning someone suggested the idea that I use two middle names.
The name would be Martha Ellen Rosa with Lynch as the surname.
Our baby due in 3 weeks was originally going to be Martha Ellen (Ellen being a family name) but we both fell in love with Rosa and couldn't decide. Martha Rosa just didn't sound right to me. However all three together does.
We already have two boys and this is going to be our last child and therefore our only daughter so I don't want to 'save' any names.

What's your opinion on two middle names?

why not?

lovely names

my 2 youngest dcs each have 2 - i don't expect them to get much use tbh but fun to have them

jenroy29 · 06/07/2010 14:30

Both my dcs have two middle names, one honouring family members and one is a first name version of my last name (as dp and I aren't married).
Only problem we have sometimes is filling out forms for them as their names total 27 and 25 letters respectively.
Prince Charles has about 76 middle names, what's good enough for them..!

LuluF · 06/07/2010 14:30

All three of mine have 2 middle names, my 4th will probably have as well.

MumInBeds · 06/07/2010 14:32

Both of mine have - more names to pick from if they decide later they don't like their first names.

foreverastudent · 06/07/2010 14:35

yes

LittleMissSnowShine · 06/07/2010 14:51

I'm trying to persuade DH of this at the min - our baby is due in 7 weeks and we've already more or less agreed on names. But if it's a boy I want to give it two middle names after both grandfathers and if it's a girl I want to give it two middle names after both grannies. DH thinks two middle names sounds a bit stupid but I think go for it!! It's not like they're going to be using all three names everyday or anything...

telsa · 06/07/2010 17:25

very fine - mine both have 3!

Teapot13 · 06/07/2010 17:50

Our daughter has 3 given names. It is hard to make three names "flow," if you know what I mean.

sweetnitanitro · 06/07/2010 17:55

DD has 2 middle names, one from each side of the family. Next DC will have 2 middle names as well.

I like the name you have chosen, I think it sounds lovely

Pogleswood · 06/07/2010 17:59

I have two middle names - I like it,and the only downside was filling in forms as my first name, one of the middle names, and my (pre-marriage)surname were all longer than average!

I think the names you have chosen sound lovely together - go for it!

cece · 06/07/2010 18:54

My DSs have two middle names. I like it and wish I had given DD two middle names as well. The only problem comes when you have to fill in a form and can't fit all of the names in the space provided!

ilovesprouts · 06/07/2010 18:56

my ds2 has 2 middle names ds1 and dd1 only have one middle name

PanicMode · 06/07/2010 19:02

All four of ours have 3 names.....

bebejones · 06/07/2010 20:27

Lovely names! Go for it!

I have 2 middle names, my DH has 2 middle names (his brother has 3 middle names) and DD has 2 middle names too! Nothing wrong with it IMO.

FiveGoMadInDorset · 06/07/2010 20:29

DC's both have 2 middle names as I do.

mumwhatnothing · 06/07/2010 20:33

skyeplusbump · 06/07/2010 20:34

i like it!
my dd has to middlenames and a double barreled sirname- some might say thats cruel but i loved all three names so much i just couldnt choose between them!!

Mumcentreplus · 06/07/2010 20:37

yes tis fine...my DD have 2 middles names one english , one African

shimmerysilverglitter · 06/07/2010 20:37

Both DC's have two middle names. Ds with the two middle names of mine and his dad's fathers (could not have possibly given him their first names as middle names - far too seventies!). Dd also, one a family name and the other the name we really liked alongside her first name and found it hard to choose.

thefirstmrsDeVere · 06/07/2010 20:51

DC3 has 4
DC4 has 3
DC5 has 4

I wouldve had more but one has to draw the line somewhere

carocaro · 06/07/2010 21:36

Totally fine.

We have 2ds's. Both have the same middle names after our late Dad's who died befored they were born.

When DS1 was born we wanted to mark their existance in his life and when DS2 came alomg we did the same, so that one DS's middle names are no more significant than the others.

We tend to use their full names when they are being a bit naughty!

Your kids your business!

flopsy1974 · 07/07/2010 19:50

Thanks for the reply's so far. Still trying to convince DH that two middle names is a good idea.

Ours are getting 3 middle names. DS1 originally had just one middle name, which is a family surname from my side. Our surname (DH's) is a peculiar Scandinavian one that looks like a typo. So a more user-friendly one as middle name seemed like it would give DS options.

DS2 now in production and we decided that he should have same middle name as DS1, plus one of his own. And that DS1 should get another middle name of his own. Aargh I'm explaining this badly.

DS1: Firstname New-middle-name-added Family-name Surname

DS2: Firstname Own-middle-name Family-name Surname

DS1 v pleased with new extra name. Will have to explain that he won't get a new middle name for every subsequent sibling, though, cos could get silly.

ILoveGregoryHouse · 07/07/2010 20:16

My three boys have two middle names and so will my daughter, after my maternal grandmother and DH's maternal grandmother. It's easier to keep everyone happy that way - we've got all of my and DH's grandparents covered this way.

Your name choices are all lovely btw.

Rubena · 08/07/2010 07:04

definitely - ds has 2, dd will have 2
