"Flowery" girls names

I'm very newly pregnant so am bound to change my mind 1000 times but at the moment I am set on having a flower name if my baby's a girl.
My favourite was Ivy but my partner said it sounds like 'an old lady name' so that's out - I don't want to argue with him!
I feel ridiculously picky but I know I don't like Lily or any of its derivatives as I have a cousin Lily and the same with Rose.
Partner has also said no to Violet.
Currently thinking about Daisy but I don't love it the way I love Ivy!

Any suggestions would be fantastic
MN is undecided also - but definitely will not be Grace or Mae or any of those, no offence to you guys with Graces and Maes xx

On the plant/flower theme I know a Daisy, Poppy, Liliana, Jasmine, Holly, Violet, Rosie, Hazel.

I really love the name Bay and wanted it for DD but DH wasn't keen.

stdomingo · 03/07/2010 21:31

Thanks
I do like Holly but as with Lily, I have a cousin with this name
I guess it wouldnt matter if I had like 15 cousins but I only have 4!

Bay is cute, some of the herby names are really lovely.

if you widen your net to include trees.

Callantha (Greek -- lovely flower)
Leilani (Hawaiian -- heavenly flower)
Iola (Welsh -- violet)
Safrron
Aven (the mountain aven is a plant with small white, yellow or red petals)
Jolanta/ Yolanda (another version of Violet)
Linnea (a small blue flower, also Swedish naturalist and taxonomist Carl Linnaeus)
Chloe (green shoot)

Aw I've just read a novel about a Jessamy and would love to be able to call my baby that!
I've wracked my brains through all my favourite novels/novelists/songs/films - nothing!

I have an Iris Maria, thought I was having a boy (unconfirmed, but my DP and 3 midwives whilst pushing were taking bets that it was a boy!!)

Helps if you have a middle name to "complete" the whole thing!

stdomingo · 03/07/2010 21:40

mathanxiety Great idea! Definitely going to consider some of them

Chloe is my middle name hehe

Also Rowan if trees are acceptable

stdomingo · 03/07/2010 21:41

kingbeat23 I'd like the middle name to be Else/Elsa I think but not sure how that will go down!

OP posts:
DastardlyandSmugly · 03/07/2010 21:45

I love Elsa. It's a gorgeous name.

kingbeat23 · 03/07/2010 21:48

Ivy Elsa duh-duh (insert surname).....how maybe syllables does your surname have?

stdomingo · 03/07/2010 21:49

DastardlyandSmugly · 03/07/2010 22:40

samsonara · 03/07/2010 22:45

Jasmine, Angelica, Fern, Hyacinth?..well maybe not the last one..

SpanishHarlot · 03/07/2010 22:52

it's nice to have a different name like Rowena, or Fleur

I was the only Keeley in my school and it is still not very common.

Hedwig3 · 04/07/2010 07:40

Blossom
Posy

Love Ivy!

LuluF · 04/07/2010 08:43

Posy is lovely
Jessamine is an old version of Jasmine and I think it's prettier
Tansy is one of my favourites and I love Ianthe.

stdomingo · 04/07/2010 11:31

Jessamine is lovely!

I tried with Ivy again and got a big fat no.
He likes Daisy though, but not much else.
Aaaagh!

I agree SpanishHarlot having a name which is different can be nice, I've never met anyone with my name yet although there are a lot of them, especially in Wales

i'll second Briony (or Bryony), Poppy, Hazel, and I love Ivy. stick to your guns and keep dropping the name into conversation with your DH, he'll soon ge used to it!

for a bit more off the wall how about Cleanothus (Cleo for short) OK that one is a little weird!!
