I like the sound of Pascale but if it is v old-fashioned in france then I'd go for Claudia.

No one makes these meanings up! If you've ever studied Latin or Greek, you will know that many words/names are derived from these languages. In the case of Claudia, the Latin word 'claudus' happens to mean "lame,crippled".
