What does everyone think?

I like it. It's a stronger take on all the usual flower names. My friend seriously considered it for her baby.

But I am in Ireland where it is really unusual. Somebody told me it was over used in America in the 70s and so it doesn't sound refreshingly different to all ears.

are you in scotland?

nobody would bat and eyelid at a heather up here - not unusual at all but not outdated either...

she'll be too young to probably ever see the film Heathers.

Ronaldinhio · 01/07/2010 08:37

nope

Magalyxyz · 01/07/2010 09:35

Is it Heather from Eastenders that puts me off?

Magalyxyz · 01/07/2010 09:35

I mean people off. Not me.

coffeefestival · 01/07/2010 09:36

It's OK

plaggycheese · 01/07/2010 10:08

Was thinking of either Heather or Bethen, I love Bethen but DH says everyone will think it should be Benthany, which I am not too keen on.

Bethany rather!

Nice name. I like it.

foreverastudent · 01/07/2010 10:30

It's on my list too. A lot of people think it sounds a bit old-ladyish, though.

LetThereBeRock · 01/07/2010 11:19

I love Heather.

Lozario · 01/07/2010 11:21

I like it too but I have two Heathers as friends who are both really lovely so that influences!

Kathleen123 · 01/07/2010 11:33

I have two friends called Heather also, who are both lovely. They are both in their late 20s, and neither are Scottish.

I have however heard the nickname Hairy Heather used, behind one of their backs.

I suspect this is going to influence your decision - I'm sorry.

Kathleen123 · 01/07/2010 12:27

Bethan is a Welsh name, and much nicer than Bethany (which IMO sounds made up).

AbFabT · 01/07/2010 17:16

I know a Bethan, and I am never confused as to want to call her Bethany. She usually goes by Beth though.
Prefer it to Heather, but Heather is ok.

russiandolly · 01/07/2010 17:30

I think it is really pretty and you don't hear it very often. I have a friend in her thirties called Heather and I always think her name stands out in the group - it is a nice name to say, quite gentle if you know what I mean.

4madboys · 01/07/2010 17:42

i have a sister called Heather, she is 27 she always got called H for short, literally just H pronounced haitch!

and our surname begins with a P so she was also called HPsauce!

i think its nice, not too common but not too unusual either

DanJARMouse · 01/07/2010 17:44

my cousin is Heather. She is 14yrs old.

She is the only one I know!!!
