Will she be called Pippa pig?

We had dd in March of this year and we named her Pippa. A couple of people have since said that she will get called Pippa pig at school. I know how cruel kids can be and id hate for her to be bullied because of her name. We are seriously considering changing it (to Eleanor). Do you think that kids will make the connection with Peppa pig or we should just stick with it. I appreciate all honesty in your replies.

she might be called pippa pig but my friend's daughter is called Emily and she is called Emily Elephant
tis the way of things

Hedwig3 · 30/06/2010 13:08

I know a 6 year old Pippa, no problems as far as I know.

George2010 · 30/06/2010 13:42

Don't change it! Pippa is a lovely name, in fact someone I know has just had a baby Pippa and I instantly thought what a cool name not pepper bloomin pig!

I really doubt she will get called that to be honest, having said that kids do have the knack of finding something about a name whatever it is but by then pepper pig probably won't be on their radar!

TattyCatty · 30/06/2010 13:46

There is a regular poster on here with a little girl called Pippa who is my DD's best friend, and I can honestly say that she has never really made the connection. It's a lovely name!

KateF · 30/06/2010 13:48

I have a Philippa known as Pip or Pippa and she has never been called anything pig-like! Stick with it, it's a great name and Peppa Pig will disappear by the time she goes to school.

5DollarShake · 30/06/2010 14:00

No matter what name you chose, there will be some dastardly child, determined to find a way to take the mick out of it.

Agree with KateF - the popularity of the show will have waned by the time your little one is at school.

We have chosen Philippa (Pippa) for dd2 , due in October. We have told the other two, and even DD (who loves Peppa Pig) hasn't made the connection. I love the name- don't change it (she might get Ellie the Elephant, instead!).

And there are so many things people could come up with, and actually never do. I have an Elliot and Millie, and worried about "Smelly Elliot/Silly Millie' . It never happens!

mollymax · 30/06/2010 16:49

I love the name Pippa, did not think of Peppa Pig at all. DD2 who is 9, nickname is Pip, as we used to call her Pipsqueak, and it has stuck.

PixieCake · 30/06/2010 17:09

Never heard of Pippa Pig. I'd stick to the name you have chosen. As someone said, kids will always find something to make fun about.

LetThereBeRock · 30/06/2010 17:12

Pippa is lovely. I'd keep it.

And if she's just been born I'd imagine that by the time she goes to school that Peppa Pig will largely have been forgotten about.

shockers · 30/06/2010 17:16

I think Philippa, Pippa and Pip are THE best names....

CuppaCoffeeJanice · 30/06/2010 17:23

The only problem she might have is if she goes to Greece, as Pippa means 'wank' there.

My friend has a DD called Rosie, and she's delighted that there's now an 'Everythings Rosie' character and insists on dressing like her every day. So there's nothing wrong with having a name like a character (first thought was Pippi Longstocking, not Peppa Pig though).

Stick with it, Pippa's a lovely name.

flibbertigibbert · 01/07/2010 16:53

Call her Eleanor and you'd better hope she doesn't turn out to be chubby or she'll be 'Ellie the elephant' - speaking from bitter experience .

Pippa is nice. Or Phoebe if you like 'P' names

LuluF · 01/07/2010 17:12

By the time's she's at school Peppa Pig might not even be on television. Stick with it. It's a good name.

Thissideofchannel · 01/07/2010 22:17

And in Germany Pippi means wee .

Still a cute name, though.

coffeefestival · 01/07/2010 22:37

I think Pippa is a lovely name. I wouldn't have thought of Peppa Pig.

GrimmaTheNome · 01/07/2010 22:46

Peppa pig will probably be old and out of fashion by the time she starts school. The latest TV 'star' could be Eleanor the Elephant by then for all we know.

LovelyJudy · 01/07/2010 22:54

I have a 10 year old Milo - needless to say i'd never seen any children's telly when i had him - we hit the crest of the tweenies wave, but it never seemed to be a problem, if anything, other children found it quite exciting. oh and i have a pip too, and no pig jokes that i know of.

My name is pippa, I am in school and to be honest I do get called peppa pig alot but that's just the immaturity of boys and teenagers! Every name gets made fun of, I have a friend called frankie and people call her 'frankenstine'. It use to upset me but then I realised that my the name is cute and now I take it and use my humor with it because I know eventually it will stop!

Rosenkohle · 20/02/2025 14:55

Yes, Pippa will probably get called Pippa Pig by childish kids, just like Williams get called Willy etc. But I'd still use the name if you love it
