too old fashioned?

I fell in love with the name Margot a few months ago but as birth gets closer I am having doubts. Trouble is I have no other names and dh is being useless!

I don't really like girly names and like the fact that Margot is quite strong sounding. We have a rather unique surname it goes with. I was thinking of having Amelie as a middle name (I love this name but feel there are too many around) which I thought might soften it.

My husband isn't a great fan as they pronounce it with a hard T where he is from. But from previous experience he will agree with my choice once he's seen me give birth!

Any name we have should preferably be French (family history reasons).

So what do you think? And if you hate it what would you suggest?

I love, love, LOVE the name Margot!

others on our list were Cecily and Beatrix...but it was a boy

I like it! My brother would have been called Margot had he been a girl, and we were horrified when we found out, b/c of the Margot Leadbetter connection (this was while it was originally running), but now, I think it's great!

I'd spell it with the 't' especially as you[ve said you want to keep the French connection.

Margot has had a comeback in France but is still not wildly popular. There is one in DD's year at school, ie a 6 year old.

Margaux

Margot will forever be a cool name thanks to Penelope Keith and I don't know a single person who would sound the T on the end.

Margaux looks ridiculous, too much like gateaux. Margot is simple and classic.

Rockbird · 27/06/2010 10:09

Ridiculous over here I should say.

I like Mango better.

Hedwig3 · 27/06/2010 10:19

Ooh I really love Margot

diggingintheribs · 27/06/2010 10:39

Definitely spell it Margot. My dh loves a glass of Margaux so would be weird to name her after his favourite tipple!

I've had enough positives to make me love it again so thank you. Now I just need to work on dh and a middle name

(and hope the sonographer was right as we have really trouble with boys names!)

I like Margot, not too old fashioned. Amelie though - well since you are french it's ok, and it's only a mn, but I think it's a bit cliched and pretentious sorry!

diggingintheribs · 27/06/2010 23:15

Amelie is one of those names I agree!

Still stuck on middle names! It was so much easier naming ds!!
