I love the name but fear it would be shortened to Ang/Angie or some variation I hate... how likely do you think this would be?

Thanks

Very likely. No-one's going to use a four-syllable name every time without shortening it, I'm afraid.

My best friend is an Angela, and no-one ever calls her Angela. It's always Ange, or Angie (she hates the latter).

mamaloco · 25/06/2010 06:11

my dd2 is angelique, and nothing else. DD1 is older and as a similar long name and nobody NN her either it will be their choice when they introduce themself to choose thier full name or a NN. if you like it go for it

Angelica is a lovely name. Do you like Annie as a nickname?

CuppaTeaJanice · 25/06/2010 09:58

Is there a shortened version that you do like (Angel, Ellie, Annie)? I agree it's a very long name to be used in its entirety, but if you can use a nn you like, it's less likely that Angie etc will be used.

The name makes me think of a. The sticky green stuff that people put on cakes in the 1980s and b. the little bitch from the Rugrats cartoon.

I know an Angelica and an Angelina both known as Angel.

Both very young.

It is a lovely name but she is the evil one in that cartoon

Thanks so much for your imput... it's difficult as I think my dislike of nick names came from my own Mother (who gave my brother & I short two syllable names to prevent this)

I'd love to be excited about a name but can't find one my DH & I agree on!

Angelica is lovely.

Like you, I'm less keen on Ange/Angie.. but I agree that 4 syllables are a bit of a mouthful..

Kathleen123 · 25/06/2010 15:02

I personally think a 4 syllabel name is going to be shortened.

What about for a longer name - Annabella, you could then shorten it to Bella or Bell (which I think are prettier names to shorten to).

bigbluebump · 25/06/2010 16:48

What about Angela?

KittyBigglesworth · 25/06/2010 17:51

Angelica is the name of a character in Emmerdale but don't let that bother you if you like it and Kaplinisky's daughter. Really reminds me of Jolie although she is Angelina of course.
I don't know if this is odd but I like the way Angela Merkel's name is pronounced with a hard 'g' makes the name sound completely different. German sexiness, no?
