I love it!

diplodoris · 24/06/2010 19:49

Not too keen I'm afraid. Prefer Jennifer or Juliet.

BertieBasset · 24/06/2010 20:58

I love it - considered it for DS but just couldn't shake the puddleduck ending in my own mind!

Magalyxyz · 24/06/2010 22:30

I like it. I know it's considered dated, but I also really like just 'plain' Gemma too. I know they are totally different in their meanings, but I would use a nn of Jemma.

WinkyWinkola · 24/06/2010 22:31

Love it.

I think it's lovely. But she will never escape the whole Puddleduck thing, so as long as she's a patient person it'll be fine!

Chathappy · 25/06/2010 09:41

Absolutely love it-think it is what we will call our dd due in September. Anyone can think of an association with any name. Jemima is classic, pretty and not overused.

Honeywitch · 25/06/2010 10:20

CHitty Chitty Bang Bang has Jemima and Jeremy in it. Jemima's great. Just don't call her Truly Scrumptious! :-)

I thought about the pancake thing too (once I realised that was what the name is associated with in the united states, which I didn't for a long time) but, tbh, it doesn't bother me enough not to pick this name myself as no one (well, most people anyway!) in this country are not aware of that connotation.

randomimposter · 25/06/2010 13:37

Love it - your little Jem

Magalyxyz · 25/06/2010 14:20

Sprogger, are you American? I know it is considered unusable in the US. But over here it is completely fine, there is no race issue associated with its usage at all.

Yes, I have to admit it was on my list when I was pg 8 years ago and I was slightly concerned about how it would be perceived in the US, as Xmil (then mil) lived in the US. Also, culture exchange (so to speak) is very one way.

pointydog · 25/06/2010 17:56

just awful

HerHonesty · 25/06/2010 21:06

erm sorry to say this but i dont spend a lot of time in the USA nor do i ever intend to. so its not really a consideration...

really like it considered it for DS2 if he had been a girl, But may be more popular than you think as I discovered there were three under five in our small village!

NiceCuppaT · 26/06/2010 08:39

I wouldn't let what USA think of a name put me off, go for it!
I know an adult Jemima who is travelling in Oz at the mo...no probs there!

turningvioletviolet · 26/06/2010 19:46

dd2 is Jemima - it's a fab name, not unusual but not overused either. she starts school in September and we just got the class name list - she's the only one out of 54 children.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 26/06/2010 19:49

Absolutely love it, know an 11 year old and it really sounds great.

muggglewump · 26/06/2010 19:50

I like it.

InmyheadIminParis · 26/06/2010 19:52

Love it. But if she were mine, she'd end up being called Puddleduck as often as not.
