Dh loves, but I am not sure....opinions please!

I have never heard of it before, where does it come from and how do you pronounce it?

Hi... It is scots Gaelic in origin...dh learning the lingo currently. It is mars.... ily, phonetically....

I've never heard of it before either. On first hearing I'm not too keen I'm afraid.

I wondered if it was something to do with Marseilles. I think people will often be asking how it is pronounced.

I love it and would use it in a second if my partner would agree. But I think you have to be in Scotland for it to work (are you?) since no-one else has ever heard of it. It's not common nowadays. I only know one, a good teuchter from the Black Isle.

I like it. Would be very unusual in England.

I love it and went to school with a Marsaili. She was a Gaelic speaker. She pronounced it to rhyme with Parsley so there's no "silly" in it.

It is v uncommon even in Scotland (unless you're in a Gaelic area) - I am Scottish and had never heard of it until I met my schoolfriend. If you google it, you find her and about 4 other people!

if i decide to head it off, i'll use the marsala excuse! - especially as dh won't let me have isadora because he thinks if we go to italy and people say it with an italian accent, it will sound like "it's a door".....

I live in Scotland and I know at least 3 adults, plus 2 newborns called it and I pronounce it Mars-alee, with a slender L sound. Def no silly in it. It is a beautiful name and is a version of Marjory/Margaret, although I think that that is a modern affectation as it was a name in existence way before any Marjories hit the highlands. Sileas is another historic gaidhlig name. Pron Sheelis..
