Does Neira (Nye-rah) sound made up to you?

I really like it but really dislike invented sounding or combination names. I saw it first in a made up context (first baby born in the NHS was named after Aneurin Bevan, we will use the variation Neirin for a boy, therefore I am stretching the concept to Neira for a girl ), but apparently it's also a Hebrew name meaning 'enlightened' which, though lovely, I can't really use as justification as I didn't know and doubt anyone else will either!

Sorry, meant to add, it also qualifies as a combination name as I like Norah and DH likes Nyree, so another black mark! But I love everything else about it...

No, but even if you twisted the original vresion, it is a "real name" whether you knew about it or not.

I like it, a lot, although as I haven't started trying for DC3 yet you don't have much to worry about.

Thanks!

I like it. I don't think it sounds made-up. I love Aneurin and I think it sounds a lot like it.

TBH it does sound made up. There are some lovely similar names though such as Nia.

BeehiveBaby · 14/06/2010 11:35

DH veto-ed because it sounds like Myrah, and I realised it looks like Keira with an 'N', so back to lobbying for Norah.

You can use the meaning as a justification, surely?! Hardly anyone knows what anything but the most usual names are supposed to mean, and if you like the name and you like the meaning, I say go for it

The way you've written it out, Nye-rah, makes me think of She-rah. I'm assuming there wouldn't be that emphasis

BeehiveBaby · 14/06/2010 11:54

I loved She-rah, now there's a name!

I like Norah

Threelittlemoomins · 14/06/2010 13:53

I really like it - it's very similar to my top choice!

There's an Indian name, Naira, pronounced like that so it doesn't sound made up to me! The way that you spell it I probably would pronounce it to rhyme with Keira.

Also love Norah.

Naira means glittering or shining, lovely.

slowshow · 15/06/2010 16:45

Due to the spelling, I would pronounce it to rhyme with Keira. And I think it does sound made up, sorry!
