Any takers? Any know any under 3s?

Would you choose it ahead of Octavia?

Which other nice O names for girls are out there?

Ondine
Onnalee - I know one named after Puff the Magic Dragin
Olga (not sure this one is nice)..!

Also how is Mair - pronounced? Just been reading about a girl called Mair. Is it mare like the horse? Or as in nightmare? . Thanks.

Oprah, Onyx, Opal, Odette, Otillie, Olive...

AvadaKedavra · 13/06/2010 03:43

I like Orianne

bluecheesefiend · 13/06/2010 04:03

I think Olivia is really lovely

MonkeyMargot · 13/06/2010 04:13

Whilst Ophelia is lovely, it does have negative connotations (drowning etc).

Orla - Irish name.
Olive
err - can't think of any more!

Ondine, a water nymph who curses her unfaithful husband to cease breathing if he should ever fall asleep again.

snickersnack · 13/06/2010 07:57

Oenone

coffeefestival · 13/06/2010 09:51

I prefer Octavia to Ophelia.

Oriana
Orla
Odelia
Oliana
Odessa
Orlanda
Opal
Orfea

RustyBear · 13/06/2010 09:56

I know an Oria and an Ottilie, both nice names.

Btw, I pronounce the 'mare' in nightmare exactly the same way as the female horse; it never occurred to me that there was any other way to pronounce it...

iloveasylumseekers · 13/06/2010 09:59

Odette

I knew a Mair who pronounced it MY-er

belgo · 13/06/2010 10:02

Just about to suggest Olga, nice name. Ottoline is nice.

BustleInYourHedgerow · 13/06/2010 10:19

You need the proper Irish spelling of 'Orla'...it's Orflaith. Terrible!

Hedwig3 · 13/06/2010 20:33

Don't know any. I quite like it.

PaulineCampbellJones · 13/06/2010 20:35

Orla can be Orla, Orlaith or Orlagh as well.

blackberry74 · 13/06/2010 20:40

Orla or Orlaigh - an Irish name.

takethatlady · 13/06/2010 20:46

Ondine means mermaid in French.

Gigantaur · 13/06/2010 20:48

I am desperate to use Ophelia but it doesn't work with dp's surname - Ophelia Wake anyone?

i love love love it.
I dont know any either. i would be very jealous of anyone that used it though

telsa · 13/06/2010 20:50

Oonagh or Oona - The Irish seem to have a good line in O names

PortiaNovmerriment · 13/06/2010 21:10

Lol at Ophelia Wake. Would accurately describe mornings in your house though, I bet

Gigantaur · 13/06/2010 21:19

bof you now us too well

annh · 13/06/2010 21:21

If you are going to use the name Ophelia you might be interested in an article about unfortunate name combinations in today's Times. I quote "Very amusing, but perhaps not so entertaining for the real-life Ophelia Balls, born in Georgia, in the US, in 1885. Ash has also uncovered Ophelia Butt, Ophelia Self, Ophelia Willy and a couple of Ophelias I couldn't possibly mention without risk of offence."!

PortiaNovmerriment · 13/06/2010 21:25

Again- all applying to Gigi

Ophelia Balls- that cracks me up

Gigantaur · 13/06/2010 21:27

well my surname is Bell so that'd be just fabulous

Pasiphae · 14/06/2010 14:44

Ophelia's lovely. But I don't like the shakespearian's one so be miffed if people linked it to it.
Ornella? Oriel/Orielle?

LilyBolero · 14/06/2010 17:04

Oriana is lovely I think.
