What do you guys think of Stanley?

My DH is super keen on the name and is even referring to the bean as Stanley already.

I think it's really cute for a bump, and even a baby, but I'm not sure I can picture a 7 year old called Stan... is it too geeky/old man? It's very very early days for us but I would love to hear your reactions!

This is all very interesting! I had no idea that it would polarise opinions so much! It looks like Stan may not end up being Stan.

Going to go for Clive instead...

I hate it.I don't understand the appeal of it at all.

I can't imagine looking at a baby and thinking 'He looks like a Stanley. We'll call him Stanley'.

NiceCuppaT · 12/06/2010 20:08

Come on do any babies look like any name!
Hair colour changes, eye colour changes....

Meglet · 12/06/2010 20:12

Both my dc's have names that were weird for babies, and I knew they would take time to 'bed' in as it were. Now they are both toddlers their names work just fine.

I like Stanley

LaDiDaDi · 12/06/2010 20:13

I like it, we had it on our shortlist for ds, in fact we probably would have gone for it unless dp hadn't been pt off by other people's reactions.

If we had gone for it though we would have called him Stan rather than Stanley.

LetThereBeRock · 12/06/2010 20:14

Some do yes but I can't imagine a baby Stanley. I really can't understand why it's so popular at the moment.

MrsSeanBean · 12/06/2010 20:23

I don't get the age vs name thing.

I struggle to imagine old men with names in the vein of Connor / Bailey / Dwayne (ugh).

Babies don't stay babies after all...

LetThereBeRock · 12/06/2010 20:26

I'm no more fond of Stanley for a 70 year old than for a baby.

Beauregard · 12/06/2010 20:28

I like it

MrsSeanBean · 12/06/2010 20:29

Exactly. You either like a name or you don't. The whole 'the baby does / doesn't look like xxxx' doesn't really apply IMHO.

tummytickler · 12/06/2010 20:30

Stanley is very, very popular at the moment - I am a little bored of it tbh.
It is ok.

MrsSeanBean · 12/06/2010 20:35

How about Swithin? I have a great Uncle called Stanley Swithin.

ellieinshock · 12/06/2010 20:42

As a first timer, I have no real experience of what kids at the mo are/are not called, except to know that most of my friend's babies are called Eve/Evie!

Had absolutely no idea that Stanley is popular... I'm amazed!
