Boy's middle name ideas?

13 replies

bev2102 · 12/06/2010 01:41

My DH and myself are trying for DC2 and are stuck on a middle name for a boy. To give you an idea of the names we like here are what we've chosen;

DS is called;
James Darren (after daddy) Arthur (after late great grandpa)

DC girl 1st choice;
Gracie Louise (after my late sister) Maude (after late great nanna)

DC girl 2nd choice;
Charlotte Mae Erneista (after my late dad (his middle name was Ernest))

DC boy 1st choice;
Harry ?? Ernest (after my late dad)

DC boy 2nd choice;
Luca/Luka ?? Ernest (after my late dad)

Any ideas for middle names? We don't mind unusual names but don't want really 'far out there' names!

An idea for a middle name for Harry would be Lee but that's my 14 year old nephew's middle name and he's not happy about us 'stealing' it from him!! Lol. As a bit of fun it may be nice to have a middle name beginning with 'L'. The reason for this is we call our DS James DA .........(surname) and would like to nickname DS2 Harry/Luca LE ........(surname). I know it sounds silly but we like the idea!!

Any ideas please?

Thank you x

Lawrence
Laurie
Lucan
Larry (maybe not?)

How about Lee spelt Leigh or would that still upset the nephew?

By the way, loving Gracie Louise Maude, so maybe you should hope for a DD X

bev2102 · 12/06/2010 02:21

Oh how I would LOVE a DD but got a feeling I'll be blessed with boys. Think I only want a DD to dress up in all the pretty girlie clothes out ther!! Lol

Lawrence seems a good choice also poss Lucan but don't think Harry Larry Ernest or Harry Laurie Ernest sounds quite right!! Lol

I think Leigh is a girls spelling isn't it? Not sure? Yes, unfortunately how it's spelt doesn't matter as my nephew's autistic so very set in his ways and easily upset. He's a wonderful young man though so shame I can't call a DS after him.

What do you think to the name Erneista (pronounced er-knee-sta)? My dad meant so much to me but daddy unexpectedly when DS was just 4 weeks old. I would love to name a child (boy or girl) after him in some way but his name was Norman Ernest so it's difficult (esp as he hated Norma!). Any other girls name ideas from his name?

Thanks very much for suggestions. Any others? Doesn't have to start with an L, would be nice but no necessary!

Sorry should've said my dad died when Ds was 4 weeks old!

Guess that's what happens when you type at nearly 230am and are really tired!! Lol

Lovely to want to remember your Dad like that.Must have been a particularly hard time for you with Ds being so young when you lost your Father.Hope he knew/was thrilled with baby James before he died.

Gave my DD the middle name Cydney after my Dad -spelt Sidney -who died when I was a teenager.

Think Harry Larry would be a bit much
Obviously Erneista would be special because of what it means to you.
Too late for any inspiring choices at the moment. I'll sleep on it!

Erneista is interesting - I assume you've already discounted Ernestine, another option.

Harry Louie might work?

Leigh is unisex, although looks better for a girl - I know both men and women with the Leigh spelling of their name.

Harry Lee Ernest does sound great - I expect that you can't persuade your autistic nephew how it would be such a compliment to have the baby named after him, can you - if he's too set in his ideas he might not be able to take on a new slant.

Why not Harry Luke/Luca Ernest?

Harry Lambert Ernest
Harry Lionel Ernest
Harry Leslie Ernest
Harry Lance Ernest
Harry Leo(pold) Ernest
Harry Leon Ernest
Harry Lysander Ernest (I love Lysander but would never dare use it )

mathanxiety · 12/06/2010 03:06

Harry Luca Ernest? Or Harry Luke Ernest? Although your nephew may not like the LE part since it's close to Lee...

Harry James Ernest?
Luca James Ernest?

Or --
David
Alfred
Charles
Gabriel
Richard
George
Gordon
Frederick
Joseph

I prefer Ernesta, Ernestine or Ernestina to Erneista.

Crouched;
Yes he was very special to me. It was a dreadful time as I had a difficult birth resulting in an ECS and my DS and I were very poorly afterwards. My dad was full of cold so couldn't visit for two weeks. Thankfully the sister on Transitional Care allowed my dad to visit 2 weeks later. He only stayed for 10 mins and didn't hold my DS. We were discharged after 3 weeks. I didn't visit my mum & dad that weekend. The next Weds DS was admitted again with acute gastroenteritis so I didn't visit the next weekend as I still felt poorly. Unfortunately dad died the next Tues without ever holding DS. I still can't forgive myself for not going to see dad those 2 weekends and for him never holding DS or having a photo with him. Worst still I can't even remember dad visiting! I'll never get over that. I should've made the effort!
My mum and DH said he was so proud of DS and me and couldn't take his eyes off DS when he saw him.
I don't think I'll ever get over that. Worse still, it would've been his birthday tomorrow (Sun 13th June). I hope he's at peace in Heaven I miss him so much and talk to him every night (brightest star in the sky).

I never thought of other name variations of Ernest as it seems such a masculine name. I really appreciate any ideas of other ways to make it more feminine.

Harry Louie Ernest does sound good. I do like Harry Luke Ernest - funnily enough something DH and I were thinking of!
Unfortunately I think Lee is out full stop no matter how spelt but anything else goes no matter how similar.
Thanks for all the ideas please keep them coming xxx

mathanxiety;
Thanks for Ernestine. Think so far girls name would be a toss up between Erneista and Ernestine.

Thanks very much for the boys middle name ideas. We originally wanted Harry Edward Ernest but have someone in the family called Edward and would get accused of copying so are still in two minds. If we don't use Edward then we're settled on Harry Luke Ernest. We also liked Harry Charles Ernest but was unsure how much stick we'd get from having two prominant Princes names as the first two names!

Please keep any different ideas coming for girls variations on Ernest. I still like Erneista (er-nee-sta) but also like lidofabrio's idea of Ernesha/Erneisha but unsure if it's enough like Ernest for my dad's memory? Also like Ernestyna and Ernestine.

Thanks to everyone for all suggestions. I really appreciate you all taking time out to help me x
