Any thoughts about Arthur?

What do people feel about Arthur for a boy? Is it a bit knights of the Round Table, or is it a good strong traditional name (or neither)? Also, dooes anyone have creative ideas for a shortening other than Artie, which I'm not wild about? I'm way ahead of myself here, as only 8 weeks pregnant, but curious about people's views anyway!

I've heard it shortened to Art.(Which I like).

Hulababy · 11/06/2010 13:43

I like it. I quite like the nn Art or Artie too.

Hedwig3 · 11/06/2010 13:51

dannap · 11/06/2010 13:59

brennannbooth · 11/06/2010 14:00

JosephineClaire · 11/06/2010 14:21

I love Arthur & Albert (Artie/Bertie) and can't decide which one I like best!

NiceCuppaT · 11/06/2010 16:55

Don't like it at all I'm afraid!

malovitt · 11/06/2010 17:05

Lots of Arthurs around here, unfortunately it's quite difficult for other children to pronounce, so they end up being called Ahhhfuuurr.

jellybeans · 11/06/2010 17:31

Old man, Eastenders

MickyLee · 11/06/2010 17:33

My Dads name and he hates it with a passion but the old names are back in now so i supoose it is different

zozzle · 11/06/2010 17:43

Not keen - a bit old man for my tastes.

scottishmummy · 11/06/2010 17:46

love it

meadowlarks · 11/06/2010 19:07

Love it too. It's on my list.

I always seem to like the currently fashionable, without realizing (though I must pick them up somehow from the ether, and then suppress any knowledge of where I've got them from!). Sigh. The pronunciation thing is a bit of an issue too, I see that. I also love Gareth, but don't really like Gary - but would feel a bit uptight/snobbish if I forbade anyone from ever shortening it. Does anyone have a Gareth and solved this successfully?

Not keen, sorry.

Without wishing to offend any mummies of Arthurs - it is really popular now but...

HATE IT HATE IT HATE IT!

Perhaps because it is my bro's middle name and it was a hideous name to have in the 80's and 90's.

But it is really popular now, so he'd be in good company.
