Reid or Brody, can't decide

Hi ladies,

I need some help, expecting a boy and can't decide between Reid and Brody.

A bit worried about Brody because we're not scottish and perhaps people will always be asking him if we are??? It also means ditch which isn't particularly great.

What do you think??

Hi - I like both, my DS is at nursery with a Brody and he's a lovely little boy so I'll plump for Brody!!

alarkaspree · 09/06/2010 17:06

Reid sounds equally Scottish to me though.

Brody is just adorable. On paper I would disapprove of obviously Scottish names if you're not Scottish, but it is so so lovely. Call him that.

Personally I don't care about the meanings of names but nothing that wrong with ditches anyway.

midnightexpress · 09/06/2010 17:08

Well, if it helps, I live in Scotland and have never heard of anyone called Brody - there are none in my DSs' nursery, and none in ds1's future p1 class. I don't know anyone with a child called Brody amongst my friends either. So I wouldn't let the Scottishness thing put you off.

Reid sounds like a surname to me, rather than a first name. And, fwiw, it also sounds more Scottish than Brody!

I don't actually like either of the names though, meself.

ShowOfHands · 09/06/2010 17:11

I dislike them both equally I'm afraid. Fall into that surnamey category.

lidofabiro · 09/06/2010 17:16

What ShowOfHands said.

ChasingSquirrels · 09/06/2010 17:20

I'm not surprised you can't decide, they are both bloody awful names.

weegiemum · 09/06/2010 17:22

I know several little boys (and bigger ones!) called Brodie, never seen it spelled Brody.

Personally I like it, so that means everyone else on MN will hate it or think its boring (I never agree on name threads).

I'll never have any more kids, but if I did, Brodie would make my shortlist!

LaTrucha · 09/06/2010 17:22

Not my cup of tea either, I'm afraid.

twolittlemonkeys · 09/06/2010 17:23

I don't like either of them, but at a push would go for Brody (Brodie?)

IWouldNotCouldNotWithAGoat · 09/06/2010 18:15

I don't like either, sorry. If I had to choose I guess I would go for Reid.

alexisfaith · 09/06/2010 18:24

Sorry to sound like a pedantic twat, but I'm Scottish and 'Brody' is an Americanized version of the real name which is Brodie. If you're using a Scottish name (and I prefer it to Reid) please use the Scottish (correct!) spelling.

Not quite my taste but prefer Brody.

jellybeans · 10/06/2010 13:04

Brody is quite nice, I know a boy and a girl called that.

ShirleyKnot · 10/06/2010 13:07

Reid is just dreadful.

swanandduck · 10/06/2010 13:07

I don't like either. Brody sounds like a very Scottish surname and Reid sounds makey uppy.

muminthemiddle · 10/06/2010 13:07

I like Brody but would not necessarily think of ot as a boys name. Not heard of Reid before.

Hedwig3 · 12/06/2010 00:10

Reid.
