Walton-on-the-Naze? Opinions please?

Is it nice there? Essex?

A friend has a place there and has kindly offered it to us over the summer. I was wondering if there are any locals here? Or if you've been? Places to go/avoid

But in answer to your question - I have been and it's quite nice. There is a great hill (I think that's the Naze??) which is good for kite flying.

It's lovely but veryyyyyy sleepy with lots of OAP residents. Clacton is good for a laugh and just down the coast

frinton is a lovely peaceful seaside town, Walton is a bit livelier and Clacton doesn't really do it for me I'm afraid.

My DH's parents used to take the family there every year for their summer holidays. They actually lived in Suffolk ... so didn't venture far .

DH and I went there for a day trip when our dd was a baby and he had a lovely nostalgic time. It is not as tacky and horrible as, say, Southend, and not as poncetastic as Southwold. Its somewhere in the middle. The beach is nice.

We went to Walton for the afternoon the other day and had a lovely time - the beach is nice and we spent a while on the sand and then when high tide approached spent an hour or so at the amusements.

You're also close enough to Colchester and other nice towns so could easily enjoy a week away there.

That sounds fantastic, as we'd be there for a while I didn't want to pack for a long stay then hate it after 2 days!

It was my late parents' favourite place. When my Dad died last year my sister and I thought about dedicating a bench for them there but we were worried it would get vandalised. Maybe one of us should have a baby and name it Walton-on-the-Naze instead....

Used to live there. Great for kids...sandy beach, tacky pier, local swimming pool. Can walk a long way along the front to Frinton where you can get good icecream, browse shops inc good second hand book shop.

Stuff to do in colchester, fashion shopping outlet not far. In other words if your kids like sand and sea, go for it.
