Ouch! No, not the first three, they sound made-up and a bit like towns in Kent. (Ashford, time for dinner!)

Kyra is nice, Dulcie is my favourite but not keen on Rae as an add-on. Felicia is posh compred to the others! But sounds a bit fellatio as if it could lead to unkind nicknames. (smile)

Keep going!

Not to my taste but the best in my opinion is Felicia assuming you will say it with a sha sound.

rachxx · 03/06/2010 13:37

lol ashleen and amberley were really common when i lived in ireland, just not here!!

I like Ashleen, and know a aisling (pronounced ashleen, and yep its irish)

Amberley is lovely.

kyra is ok, but people get mixed up and say keira.

Dulcie is really cute, but dulcie-mae or dulcie-marie is better

Molly is over used, and felicia I don't like.

ellesabe · 03/06/2010 15:07

I think Felicia is the nicest by far

mathanxiety · 03/06/2010 16:05

Ashleen -- no but Ashling is nice
Amberley -- is it Amber or Kimberley?
Shyla -- no
Kyra -- ok
Dulcie-rae -- ok
Molly-rae -- ok
Felicia -- Fellatio Please do not call your DD this.

candyflossbaby · 03/06/2010 16:49

I never spelled aisling as ashling (someone else did)- aisling is how the irish spell it (i am half irish), so I said ashleen, as this is what my baby name book said for the english spelling.

I wont be using felicia then, but pronounced as aliss-ee-a but with a F on the front, didnt sound too bad to me, and as a rainbow leader there are three in my pack, so i assumed it must be ok!!

shyla and kyra are both greek (my other half is greek, hence why i chose those ) if anyone was confused by these, and when i was at school there were four amberley's/amberleas in my year group, so cant be that made up!!!

has anyone got any suggestions then of alternatives, if these names are so awful?!?!?

Aisling is nice if you don't anglicise it.

The others are not nice, don't like double-barreled names at all.

Dulcie's pretty on its own though.

Your baby though. Call it something you like.

rachxx · 03/06/2010 17:25

well I want to call it something not too common, but I have no idea what is considered 'nice' or 'horrible'
I thought those names were ok in all honesty!!
Thankgod I have ages to go, I dont want everyone cringing when they hear my baby's name!

LetThereBeRock · 03/06/2010 17:28

I don't like any of them. Molly is ok but not when paired with Rae.

mathanxiety · 03/06/2010 17:51

I knew a few Ashlings (ASH spelling) growing up in Ireland I think 'Ais' can give rise to mispronunciation in the UK. I also knew a good few Aislinns which would be pronounced 'Ashling' in Irish but would be difficult for a British eye.

Felice is nice, much better than Felicia, imo.

candyflossbaby · 03/06/2010 17:55

Felice sounds like falice a little bit??

mathanxiety · 03/06/2010 18:01

Oh, then maybe forget Felice too.

lidofabiro · 03/06/2010 18:18

I like Aisling. I would make slight changes to some of your other ideas.... would you consider Amber, Carina, Clara, Dulcie, Lucy or Felicity?

minipie · 03/06/2010 18:31

Dulcie is nice (but not Dulcie-Rae).

Kyra is nice also, esp if you have Greek heritage.

Amber is a good suggestion from Lido.

rachxx · 04/06/2010 09:24

Thanks Lido, will mention all your suggestions to OH with the exception of Lucy and Clara.

Molly to me is the name of my friends dog so would be out.
I like Rae for a girl, was looking at Raina for DD, but didn't go for it in the end. Also, love Skyla, but not Shyla so much.
