What do you think of Emilia as a girl's name? It's listed on Mumsnet's Baby Name Finder.

I prefer either Emily or Amelia.

lljkk · 02/06/2010 19:10

Friend just called her newborn girl this, with Milly as nn.
People will get confused and think that it's Amelia, if you can handle the prospect of folk constantly getting it wrong and not always remembering no matter how often you correct, then I think it's very pretty.

cakeywakey · 02/06/2010 19:11

Like Emilia Fox, I think it's lovely.

NoahAndTheWhale · 02/06/2010 19:12

There was an Emilia in DS's class at school. I was confused at first but only for about 5 minutes.

I think it's more interesting than Emily or Amelia - you don't get so many of them.

EvilTwins · 02/06/2010 19:13

Love it. Much prefer it to Amelia, for no particular reason.

essenceofSES · 02/06/2010 19:14

I prefer Emilia to Amelia. Go for it!

queenofthehouse · 02/06/2010 19:27

I love the name Emilia, I first heard of it as a friend of a friend used it but now couldn't use it as i'd feel a bit copy cat but it is so much nicer than Amelia, there are so many and milly reminds me of cookies. Emily I used to like but not so keen now. x

yomellamoHelly · 02/06/2010 19:46

Like it a lot. We toyed with the idea of calling dd (14 mmonths) it as couldn't call her Amelia. Decided against it as thought she'd have a lifetime correcting how everyone pronounced / spelt it. Gave her Emily as a middle name as couldn't think of a third name we liked (initials also an issue).

PheasantPlucker · 02/06/2010 19:47

This is one of my favourite names

GuntherMcKilocodie · 04/06/2010 10:01

It's the italian version of Amelia. Pronounced in exactly the same way. It's DD2's middle name.

candyflossbaby · 04/06/2010 10:06

I like it but its too common now, I know 5 under 3.

twolittlemonkeys · 04/06/2010 10:08

I prefer it to Amelia or Emily. Go for it. I don't know any Emilias/

LuluF · 04/06/2010 10:09

I have a cousing called Emilya - pronounced the same way.

LuluF · 04/06/2010 10:09

Obviously - I meant 'cousin'.

GiraffeYoga · 04/06/2010 10:38

Love it, would use it but too similar to cousins names/ friends etc.

Emilia, and Lia for short.

Leah or Lia is one of my favs.

FagAshLil · 04/06/2010 10:47

I have an Emilia. She's known as Emmy rather then Milly.
I do constantly have to spell it and she quite often gets called Emily or Emma but I still love it.

Clary · 04/06/2010 23:02

You and yr DD will always be spelling it I suspect.

I know a few - some are known as Emmy which helps. Some are called by mum "Emmm-eelia" which sound sa bit odd.

It's very popular (round here anyway) if that's an issue for you.

I know at least 8 aged 5yo-8yo.

SE13Mummy · 05/06/2010 11:19

I think it's pretty as do a number of the new parents round here; I know of an Emilia, Emelia and Amelia all born within the last year!

My older sister is called Emilia, and I think its a really pretty way of spelling it. Its slightly more unusual and I think more classy!
( NO offence what so ever to anyone spelt the other way! ] SO a BIG vote for EMILIA from this camp

JUst as a slightly amusing tale... She was named Emilia as my Dad was with the RSC at the time doing Othello... it was that or Desdemona! I think they chose well

champagnesupernova · 05/06/2010 12:35

Yes, do you think it matters if it's close to cousin's names?
I think of them as so separate but this baby will have a cousin Amelia (though she has a diff nn)

champagne yes, he was with them for a long while. He's a musician, so was actually playing in the orchestra. He plays the flute, but specialised in all kinds of different types of ethnic flutes, recorders etc. He's currently the ethnic flutes in the Lion King in the West End.

My sister is 37 now, so it was a long while ago!
