Derry - for a boy or a girl?

What do you think of this name? I thought of it earlier today when someone referred to Derry Irvine (although am asuming that it is short for Derek maybe?) and thought that I actually quite like it? Any opinions?!

I knew a male Derry, and would associate it with the Irish Daragh or Dara, and names based on the oak tree. I think in Ireland it would be more a boy's name than a girl's. (Dara = oak). Doire Colmcille is the old Irish name for Derry city in NI -- the name is derived from the oak groves of the area.

I think Derry Irvine is Alexander something something Irvine.

I'm not keen on it as a full name TBH, but if used as short for something it would be OK as a nickname.

It could be short for Derek or Dermot/Diarmuid. Dara can be used for a boy or girl. Girls' variants of Dara include Darah, Daria, Darissa and Darya.

I like it for a girl. I also like Derra.
My "imaginary twins" would be a girl called Derra and a boy called Tomlin

Derry could be short for Deryn for a girl - it can mean one of two things either 'gift' in Greek or 'bird' in Welsh. Good Luck!

I know a Deryn. She's just beautiful.

I thought that was a nickname, a male one.
