Stuck for boys names..

I love Asher, but dh hates it.
Want something strong, unusual enough that there won't be 2 other boys with the same name in his year group, but not so weird as to cause bullying or people to assume it's made up. I have Welsh ancestery so could do Welsh, but English friendly Welsh iykwim. Quite like Rhodri, but again dh has vetoed, he doesn't like the idea of Rod, which does place me in mind of Emu tbh. DH has some Scottish ancestery, so again a possibility.
DH seems OK with Danny, Griff and Dylan, all of which I like, but not sure I love any of them..

Gethin is my favourite Welsh boys name - can't use it as we have a good friend with the name and it would feel a bit weird.... he gets shortened to Geth.

pickler · 01/06/2010 12:12

Emrys?

MollieS · 01/06/2010 16:48

I really don't like the sound of 'Gethin' it sounds like 'get in'...!

If you like Ellis but your dh hates it, have you tried him with Elliot?

As for Scottish/Welsh names, what about Fraiser? I'm not keen personally but it meets your geographical criteria and has a similar sound to others you say you like...
I was at school with a Scottish boy called Quinn which I always thought was very unique and quite nice.
Finally, a friend with Scottish/Welsh roots has recently had a baby called Murdock. A bit off the wall IMO but strangely appealing.

Good luck!

Nowhere near Stroud and actually I have met a lovely Kyle, Alice, Jay and Katie - as for Callum only taught a couple, but obviously would never make assumptions of a child based on their name

Rhodri is a brilliant name.

Wonderstuff · 05/06/2010 22:54

SOH thank-you - there had been a name I liked that I couldn't remember (if that makes any sense) was Inigo - DH obviously hates it, but I can sleep soundly.

In the boy's classes Welsh anmes seem in vogue forv girls only (excepting Lewis and Morgan, which are quite generic these days i think)

DS3's middle names are Jarvis and Griffith (fortuitous as we had never considered moving to Wales when he was born LOl, it reflects the Welsh branch on my family- oh OK and my teenage love of jarvis Cocker - wqell when you've done dutiful naming X 3 why not have a giggle?).

Also love Aneurin and Kier; CAdoc os good but is the local psych hospital, Cedric and ianto nice names.

Had we had another child we may have considered Isca (name of a Roman settlement in Wales) but luckily for said named child that's not going to happen!.

DS2 is Stirling, whcih is Celtic if not Welsh (though reflects DH's love of racing rather than any ancestral duty).
