Forgot this one on my list of boys names!
WHat do you think?
I think Bernie would fit in well with the Berties, Archies and Albies.
And Bernard is a good strong boys name for when babe is older.

Is it a bit weird in a sibset with very OT names though?

Would love opinions.

Bernard is a good, solid name that works across all ages. And Bernie is cute nickname.

It just happens not to be 'fashionable' at the moment. But, as a previous poster said, it only takes a few 'cool' Bernard's to change that image, like with so many other 'old fashioned' names like Arthur, Albert, Quentin, Stanley, Alfred etc.

elkiedee · 01/06/2010 10:36

I have a friend called Bernard, I guess he's now rather middle aged but I first met him when he was in his early 30s (falls off a chair when she realises how many years ago). I call him Bernie as do most of his other friends I know but he always calls himself Bernard. I still can't imagine giving the name to a baby.

luciemule · 01/06/2010 10:37

have to say that nobody was calling their child Barnaby so we were a bit worried when we called DS that. Now though, there are a few more and it's seen as a cool name. So go with bernard if you like it.

mopsyflopsy · 01/06/2010 10:40

Bernard is lovely.

Why are we "worried" about giving our child a name that nobody else chooses. Imo, that is the point of 'naming' someone or something!

notnowbernard · 01/06/2010 10:51

Love it

tummytickler · 01/06/2010 10:52

I think I love it more and more now! It is definately up there at the top of the list!
Other boys are Eli and AMos though - is that going to work, Eli, Amos and Bernie?

I know a very dishy Bernard. People make a name, the name doesn't make the person!

threeinthebed · 01/06/2010 11:35

I like it Maybe it's because I have a friend called Bernard, so it has positive associations for me. As Psammead says, people make the name. The Bernard I know is in his early 40s, is strong and athletic, and always has gorgeous girlfriends

LetThereBeRock · 01/06/2010 12:50

It makes me think of Bernard Black from Black Books. He was a great character but not someone you'd want to live with.

The thought of a baby called Bernard makes me laugh. It seems so absurd.

I don't like Amos either but Eli is nice.

mummyneedschocolate · 01/06/2010 14:07

I like it. True, it is difficult to imagine a baby with the name but he won't be a baby for long & you can give him a cute nn when he's born til he's old enough to be Bernard. Bernie works for a baby well though.

sparkleshine · 01/06/2010 14:39

eww no

Bonsoir · 01/06/2010 14:40

No.

This is my FOL's name.

Alouiseg · 01/06/2010 14:41

My Dad is called Bernard and would love a Bernard revival.

His middle name is Herbert (poor sod) and even that is having a moment! As Herbie admittedly.

mathanxiety · 01/06/2010 14:58

I think of Bernie as a nn for Bernadette -- I know lots of them, but I'm Irish, and Bernadette was pretty popular until about 30 years ago in Ireland.

sedgiebaby · 01/06/2010 15:41

I have to agree with BrigitBigKnickers I'm afraid this is the picture I get too. But it might get a new lease of life, who would have thought that Milly, Amelia, Florence, Elsie would come back in vogue (my mum still thinks these are old lady or scullery maid type names but I find them really appealing), do you like Barnaby I grew up with one, its similar sounding but a bit younger maybe?

BrigitteBardot · 01/06/2010 15:42

I really really don't like it. Sorry. And my dad is called Bernard too!
