WDYT of Bruce? We are considering it for a future DS, but we mentioned it to my family last night and they all started laughing.

I really don't like it!! I see it mostly as a surname too

tummytickler · 31/05/2010 21:09

Prefer Bruno, but Bruce is OK.
Met a baby Bruce last week and thought 'how cute!'

LetThereBeRock · 31/05/2010 21:14

Horrid.

pointydog · 31/05/2010 21:14

Not good.

capstone · 31/05/2010 21:15

I can't think of any Bruces except Bruce Forsyth.

LetThereBeRock · 31/05/2010 21:16

Bruce Dickinson of Iron Maiden. I love him but not his name.

Bruce Springsteen.Not a fan.

DuelingFanjo · 31/05/2010 21:17

I know one Bruce and he's in his late 30s. It was an unusual name back when we were kids and still is now. I like it.

Tobermory · 31/05/2010 21:17

In my mind Bruce is always said with an Australian accent!

pointydog · 31/05/2010 21:18

you get th eodd one in scotland

Mingg · 31/05/2010 21:27

Bruce Springsteen. A fan

GillyBoot · 31/05/2010 22:35

I prefer Bruno too.
Bruce Banner was my first thought

bananamumma · 31/05/2010 23:58

Terrible.

Shallishanti · 31/05/2010 23:59

but....'mind if we call yer Bruce?'

nooka · 01/06/2010 05:42

Very Australian to me, and not in a good way. Also quite '70's, which is maybe why you had the laughter. However I doubt your potential ds would meet another! (Unless you move to Australia perhaps).

swanandduck · 01/06/2010 11:34

I can understand your family's reaction. I would burst out laughing if someone told me they were calling their child Bruce.

vicbar · 01/06/2010 12:19

My DH loves this but we are having a DD. Its not my cup of tea but its better than Bruno which others are suggesting - bit too much of a dog name and makes me think of the Sacha Cohen film.
Im on Prg 4 and have learnt to only ever discuss names with DH and maybe DC as Im fed up of others laughing. My secret wishlist was Clemantine for a girl and Gulliver for a boy but I dont have the balls to do it.

Not great.

But definitely better than Bruno.

Granny23 · 01/06/2010 13:23

I call my adopted King Penguin at Edinburgh Zoo, Bruce. Partly an antipodean reference, and partly as in KING Robert the BRUCE.

Fourleaf · 01/06/2010 19:47

Thanks for the responses! DH and I agree that the largely negative response has completely failed to put us off Bruce
FWIW we don't like the'differentness' of it particularly, we just think it's a good strong name. Oh, and I LOVE Springsteen, which helps. Not keen on Bruno.

DB is Bruce, so to me will always be the name of a 45 year old scientist

WickedWitchSouthWest · 01/06/2010 20:03

My cat is called Brucie...I wouldn't name a child that though!

sweetnitanitro · 01/06/2010 20:20

I like it! My first thought was of Bruce Campbell though

lovechoc · 01/06/2010 20:23

I like it - you have chosen a good one there. If it didn't clash with our surname I would have liked it for DS2.

Theochris · 01/06/2010 20:27

I think I like it, I know baby Bruce who is so cute, I think it has made me like the name.
