Like it? or not?

How popular is it??

I love it but would like other peoples opinions before I take the plunge.

Don't want to end up with 3 others in a nursery class.

I don't know if it's just MN but Edward is asked about almost daily. Seems to be quite popular atm. But it's a good and classic name.

sophiesmummie · 31/05/2010 17:46

Very popular and a little dull imo.

Shaz10 · 31/05/2010 17:47

I love it. Lots of potential for nicknames too, so if it's common it doesn't matter!

ZZZenAgain · 31/05/2010 17:48

don't know how popular it is, have never met a dc called Edward past 5 years but it is an ok name, nothing wrong with it

ElfOnTheTopShelf · 31/05/2010 17:49

Edward is apparently getting more and more popular due to the Twilight books.
I think its a nice name, but I think it is getting really popular.

WickedWitchSouthWest · 31/05/2010 20:19

It's our chosen name if dc2 is a boy, but that's mostly because of a family naming tradition that goes back yonks We're going with Ted as a nn.

capstone · 31/05/2010 20:44

I like it

TeaBaggy · 31/05/2010 20:49

one word: twilight

pointydog · 31/05/2010 20:57

love Ed and Eddie.

happywheezer · 31/05/2010 21:02

I have a two year old called Edward and obv I love the name. Nothing to do with twilight etc.
I call him Ned as a nickname too. I called him Edward because it was an uncommon "posh" name that could have lots of nice NN and would look good when he goes to Pschool!
If you are interested, it came 5 (ish) in the times names baby announcements the year that Ned was born(2008), so a good MC name!

pickler · 31/05/2010 21:05

I like it but it's the new Thomas ie a classic overused name by ALL classes

it's a very english name so you won;t get that many of them out of engerland

MrsJohnDeere · 31/05/2010 21:23

I love it. One of mine had it as a middle name.

I know it is supposed to be popular but I don't actually know any children with Edward or it's variations as a first name.

starmucks · 31/05/2010 21:49

I have a little Eddie born last year. It's a not that Engerlish; Eduoard in French, Edouardo in Spanish....Ted if American.

pointydog · 31/05/2010 21:53

I meant english as in not very scottish, welsh, irish. I was ignoring the larger world

starmucks · 31/05/2010 21:56

I am Irish! Tends to be shorn to Ned, but your right, there are not that many.

Hedwig3 · 01/06/2010 09:45

Incredibly popular here and I'm afraid I don't understand why.

mopsyflopsy · 01/06/2010 10:37

We're in Surrey and there are loads of little Edwards (Ed, Eddie) here.

It certainly is very difficult for a German or French person to pronounce Edward , so if you want a name that travels well, I'd avoid it.
