What do you think of Marlo?

What do you think of Marlo as a boy's name?

I've just discovered it on the ONS 2008 list of boys' names at number 2769, so not too common! I quite like it because it has a similar sound to Milo - but Milo is much more common (181 on the list), and to me is a bit European sounding, wheras Marlo sounds more British (which goes better with our surname).

Any thoughts??

I haven't heard of it before, but I like it (and also like Milo).

tortoiseonthehalfshell · 28/05/2010 12:36

Dooce just called her second daughter Marlo.

mitfordsisters · 28/05/2010 12:39

Wouldn't you spell it Marlow?

ladylush · 28/05/2010 12:41

I quite like it. I like Carlo as well.

diddl · 28/05/2010 12:44

Prefer Arlo or Milo tbh.

It sounds like a combination of both-and not in a good way!

ladylush · 28/05/2010 12:46

Wasn't there a Milo in Tweenies?

sophiesmummie · 28/05/2010 12:52

Marlo/Marlow is cool. I like it.

Not keen on Milo - sounds a bit cartoony.

FlorenceandtheWashingMachine · 28/05/2010 12:52

It's come from The Wire I guess? Cool name. I prefer it to Milo.

If you after something British how about spelling it Marlowe after Christopher Marlowe?

Disenchanted3 · 28/05/2010 12:53

I love it!

rachel234 · 28/05/2010 12:54

I like it.

Marlo also sounds the same in most languages, whereas Milo is pronounced Meelo in most European languages.

sapell3 · 28/05/2010 13:39

I like the spellings Marlo and Marlowe. I think of Marlow as a place name.

paulaplumpbottom · 28/05/2010 13:45

One of my best frinds growing up was Marlo. She was and still is one of the nicest people you could ever meet.

autodidact · 28/05/2010 13:47

Like it. Good friend of my son (11 so definitely pre-Wire!) has this name.

Dixiebell · 28/05/2010 14:02

I never really got into The Wire, so wasn't aware of it from there, in fact have never heard of it before. DH has said 'hmmm', and prefers w ending, but I think that makes it seem more feminine.

I think Marlow sounds and looks masculine to my ears. I like it.

Jamieandhismagictorch · 28/05/2010 14:58

I quite like it, but I prefer Carlo

VivClicquot · 28/05/2010 15:02

I like it but absolutely love love love Arlo.

In fact, if we were to ever have a boy, Arlo would be on my list - save for the fact that DH's family are Scousers and given how everyone in the family is referred to as "Our this" and "Our that" I would be concerned that they would think we'd named our son 'Lo'

Dixiebell · 28/05/2010 16:30

Yes, quite like Arlo too actually. Viv how about Harlow instead - make em pronounce the H so you don't have that problem!

Like St Marlo?

I like it.

sedgiebaby · 28/05/2010 16:53

I know a new baby called Marlon

MagalyZz · 28/05/2010 16:55

I know of a baby Marius which I prefer. I quite like Mario too.

MagalyZz · 28/05/2010 16:57

What about Arnaud?

Pronounced Arno obviously but it's like an O name that will not date...

OrganicHairbrush · 28/05/2010 16:59

I think Milo was an 80s Australian brand of mated hot chocolate

rachel234 · 28/05/2010 17:27
