Down to the last few names - this is one of our faves but would welcome your opinion on it? Do you know any Kits?

Do I know any? No. Do I have an opinion on it? yes - I like it! Would probably go for Christopher (or is there anything else?) with Kit as nn though.

itsybitsy08 · 19/05/2010 23:10

Dont know any but have to say i think its fab! For a boy or a girl! I think its a really cool name

nooka · 20/05/2010 06:07

Very nice nn for Christopher, or possibly Crispin, Christian and other similar variants. Or Katherine of course.

HubbaBubbaAbba · 20/05/2010 09:10

Kit reminds me of "Knight rider"

Lovethesea · 20/05/2010 09:56

I like it as a nn but not a full name IMHO. It would suit some boys as they got older but I think many would need another name, like Christopher, to have options.

Also reminds me a little of a sheepdog story series for kids .... it's that short, one syllable sound. Might also depend on the surname for how adult it could sound when he is sending off job applications etc.

bobblehat · 20/05/2010 09:59

It's lovely, but would go with an offical name, and Kit as the nn.

There was a lad in my year called Kit, although his proper name was Christopher. Everyone, including teachers used Kit.

Merrylegs · 20/05/2010 10:01

Why do you have to have a 'proper' name? Kit is very nice in and of itself.

Tobermory · 20/05/2010 10:07

We had Kit on our shortlist for ages and think its llovely but I was put off by Christopher as a given name (apologies to anyone who has a Christopher). I felt it needed a Sunday name and other than Christopher the only one that seemed to fit was Christian and thats a no-no.

I shouldnt have opened this thread. DH and I have got the list down to 'probably' one name for boy and one for a girl but now maybe I have to rethink Kit.

Hedwig3 · 20/05/2010 10:12

I like Kit just as it is, you can call your child whatever you like.

If you don't like the longer versions then just go with Kit!

Girls are being named Kitty without the longer versions anyway.

booboobeedoo · 20/05/2010 10:17

love Kit, however, I know 3 (all under 2). I think it is very "now"

DastardlyandSmugly · 20/05/2010 10:58

Love it. It would be in my list if I was having another boy.

George2010 · 20/05/2010 11:14

I know a Kit and I really like the name,

....it is short for Christopher though in his case but I would quite happily use it as a name in its own right.

It was cool when he was at school and now he's a professional he still really suits it-goes with all ages I think

cakeywakey · 20/05/2010 11:33

I do like it as a nn, if you love it, go with it. You just need to be prepared for people to assume that his 'real' name is Christopher.

Pasiphae · 20/05/2010 14:31

I like it. I don't know any. I would however assume that it is a nickname for a longer "Chris..." name.
Does not Sophie Ellis Bextor have a son called Kit?

ShadeofViolet · 20/05/2010 14:34

Car.

DuelingFanjo · 20/05/2010 14:37

yes, I know one Kit. a girl. She's 30 something and the daughter of a friend of my mums.

strandedatsea · 20/05/2010 14:39

No - makes me think of Kit Kat or Kit bag (pack up your troubles....).

But I am in the minority so ignore me.
