I love Elodie, it was top of my girls name list (had a boy).

jabberwocky · 21/05/2010 01:18

Phoebe

MumChlo · 21/05/2010 09:19

I love Elodie.

Pasiphae · 21/05/2010 12:40

Phoebe. Elodie seems more of a recent fad.

VicCc · 21/05/2010 13:06

Elodie.

crumblequeen · 21/05/2010 13:07

Phoebe is beautiful

reup · 21/05/2010 13:15

Elodie is far nicer. I know one who has never been shortened.

fluffles · 21/05/2010 13:19

I've never heard or seen the name Elodie.

Is it pronounced just like Melody but without the M?

Am i the only person who has never come across it before?

diddl · 21/05/2010 15:17

Phoebe.

Isn't it Ell O Dee?

I did like this when I first heard it in France about 6 years ago. And I've already gone off it so I guess it's a fad name for me. Hasn't stood the test of time.

CristinaTheAstonishing · 21/05/2010 18:55

How does the French pr. of Elodie differ to the English one? There's not much to the name to make it different between the 2 languages.

I think I like Phoebe more but Elodie is surprising and unusual. Nice too.

LetThereBeRock · 21/05/2010 19:05

I like both but favour Elodie.

GirlWithTheMouseyHair · 22/05/2010 21:53

Phoebe

Elodie.

piscesmoon · 27/05/2010 20:58

Phoebe

brennannbooth · 27/05/2010 21:03

Both lovely, I would toss a metaphorical coin in the air and go for Elodie if she's born in the day and Phoebe if she's born at night time.

lilolilmanchester · 27/05/2010 21:07

I like them both. I prefer Elodie as I also like (actually prefer) the shortened versions (Elle, Ellie, Dee) That said, I know a teenaged Phoebe and she gets "Fee" or "Feebs. So roll forward a few years if you can and think how you would feel if your DD's friends shortened her name (out of your control at that point!)

Lora69 · 27/05/2010 22:28

thanks so much everyone you are very kind..

LOL @ brennannbooth- why Elodie in day and Phoebe in night?! I think because Phoebe means 'bright' and is associated with the moon goddess, hence nighttime?

lilololmanchester- which part of manc u from? Im here too, in city centre

Re nicknames- my brothers GF and likely wife is called Ellie so i wouldnt like the confusion with their names! Plus my OH dislikes Ellie, but I like Elle and not sure he minds that one. I quite like Dee too, in the same way that I like Bee for Phoebe

I love Bee and Pheebs for Phoebe, as well as of course the full length name, but i really really dont like Fee!!

So it seems each one has its drawbacks with regards to nn's...

L O D...not good with English accent.
Pheobe okay but all I can think of is Friends!! Fee or Bee better!

marjean · 27/05/2010 22:37

I love the name Elodie. It's absolutely beautiful - I first heard it after seeing a French film - the dream life of angels - and chose the name for one of my dds. I wouldn't shorten it - it's too lovely.

lilolilmanchester · 27/05/2010 23:35

South Manchester Lora, won't say more as like to retain my anonymity on here! No-one lived in the City Centre when I first moved here in the early 80s, funny how it's changed!

PosyPetrovaPauline · 11/07/2010 22:54

Agree with the shortened version
I know a couple of Elodies - Phoebe more timeless

Kathleen123 · 12/07/2010 11:52

Prefer Phoebe
