Fred, Edward or Fredward

After excitedly talking about names for the first few months we are now lacking ideas and I would love some input.

Initially we really liked all the royal kings names such as William, Henry, Edward, George ect and also Frederick (after my Granddad).

We want quite a traditional name but nothing too common either.

I think our top three at moment are Frederick (Fred), Edward (Ed or Eddie) and also DH has thrown in Noah which I also like.

Surname is quite 'traditional' and 'solid' so feel the first name needs to be too.

PS - I was joking about Fredward - was a secret Jeward fan during Xfactor!!!!!

Edward nn Teddy for a baby

Firky · 17/05/2010 18:18

I considered Alfred for my boy.
I recon you could then call him ,Alf ,Fred.Freddy or Eddie.
Lovely name I think.

all quite boring sorry

5inthebed · 17/05/2010 18:20

I like Fredrick. My Dsis is pg and Im trying to convince her it is a nice name.

Thanks for quick replies already!

I agree Edward could be a bit boring but do like ted, teddy, ed and eddie.

I like Alfred but our nephew is Albert (which also think is lovely name) but too similar.

John?
Good solid-sounding king's name. Can't go wrong.

My friend's DS is Arthur (Art) which is quite sensible but also a bit funky.

Hedwig3 · 18/05/2010 09:43

Frederick all the way!

EricNorthmansmistress · 18/05/2010 12:28

Frederick! Albert and Alfred are done to death (see overrated names thread!) and too old man chic. Frederick is still new IMO.

othersideofchannel · 18/05/2010 12:29

Frederick is nice

Quentin?
Victor?

seeker · 18/05/2010 12:30

Edward. Fab name, and lots of really good shortenings.

Clary · 18/05/2010 12:33

All your names are nice. I think there will always be another Will or William at school (I know at least 8 of primary age) but Henry, George, Edward and Frederick are less common.

Sticking with the WW1 tip, how about:
Stanley
Arthur
Alfred
Joseph (v popular tho)
Wilfred

Pootles2010 · 18/05/2010 12:35

Love edward, my oh wouldn't let me have it (he hates the nickname ed for some bizarrer reason). We're going with Alexander Joseph, both quite classic names i think? Have heard a lot of people thinking of Edward so maybe it won't be that unusual...

Am imagining its recent popularity may have something to do with certain vampire film...(by the way, thats not why I liked it, have loved it since was about 18 )

emmyloo2 · 18/05/2010 13:34

I love Edward. It's my dad's name and my grandfather's name but my Dad went by his middle name. I love the nns of Teddy, Ted and Ed or Eddie. My Mum calls my Dad Ed or Eddie.

Noah is nice but a bit trendy now for my liking. I liked it about 5 years ago and still think it's a lovely name but I have removed it from my list because it's a little bit "now" for my liking.

Hedwig3 · 19/05/2010 11:25

I know SO many Edwards!

flopsy1974 · 19/05/2010 13:00

Love Edward. DH doesn't like the shortened versions so not allowed to have it for new baby.

Margaret3 · 19/05/2010 13:33

I like Edward.

maxbear · 19/05/2010 14:26

I have an Edward and quite often call him Edward Tedward Fredward as a joke, so I am relieved you are not actually considering Fredward! I also have a Noah who is usually known as babyNoah although I don't imagine that will stick!!

Hedwig3 · 19/05/2010 18:52
