I was so sure of my baby name, now I'm paranoid!

So for years I have had Ruby Rose picked for a girl. It's not wildly popular where I live but that wouldn't bother me too much anyway.

Two other issues. DD1 has Rose as a middle name and is adamant that she wants to share it if she has a sister. I think thats ok, yes?

Thirdly our surname is two syllables and begins with R.

I've been thinking of maybe Lee or Eve as a middle name alternative.

So what are your thoughts? TIA

I think it's weird to gove the same middle name to siblings but each to their own.

I like Ruby Rose but think it might be a bit much with an 'R' surname too. As for sharing, both of my girls have the same middle name as me, my sister, my nieces and my mum!! It's become a family thing.

Is it Ruby or Rose that you are having a wobble about?

I think it's lovely. I have a friend who has given the same middle name to her 2 daughters and the little ones think it is really special. I do too...

ruby rose rogerson ( just picked a 2 syl surname at random) is a bit much alliteration wise me thinks

My DH and his siblings (male and female) all have the unisex 'Dominique' (patron saint of childbirth apparently) as one of their, several, mns. (We are talking big Catholic families here). So why not? Ruby Eve is possibly too many 'e' sounds together.

ld- It's Ruby Rose together. I absolutely love it but don't want to burden a DD with a madly popular combination name. I have honestly never heard it here (Australia).

I really could live with the choice but does the third R (until she's married) make it weird?

I love Ruby Rose! Would avoid Ruby Lee - makes me think of 'Gypsy Rose Lee'. sorry!

My very first choice was Ruby Louise but unfortunately Ruby Lou is a type of spud is it not?

I don't think the triple alliteration is a prob as nobody's ever going to use all 3 names again after the first month.
Can you not get your DD1 to think of another name she likes for the mn? Or just convince her she came up with whatever name you do choose - she can't be that hard to manipulate?

Ruby Sky to keep the idea of an image conjured up

Ruby Louise is lovely. I don't think the two Rs in name and surname would be an issue if you decided on Ruby Rose R---- though. It doesn't sound at all bad to my ear.

Although, if your surname is Rooney or some other name that shares the long OO sound of Ruby, then No.

Don't listen to them, Ruby Rose Reindeer (or whatever!) is sweet. It would be a problem if the surname was one syllable but two gives it a nice rhythm. Go for it.

And who would even now or care about the middle name issue. Once you've put it on the birth certificate you'll never mention it again!

Just out of interest though, and to be completely stirry, if Ruby Rose was the name you had picked out for years, how come DD1 isn't called it? And how come her middle name is Rose?

Rockbird- DD1 is 7 and I've had RR picked since I was pg with DS, so only 3.5 years.

DD1 was actually called Amy Lee for three days (which I don't care much for now). I had been asking DH for weeks to give me some girls names from his Japanese mothers family and of course DD is 2 days old before he offers up Mika, which we thought was a good fit with Rose. Mika being DD paternal great grandmothers name. No special reason for Rose is just sweet.

As it turned out DD was dark haired and olive skinned and much more a Mika Rose than an Amy Lee.
And of course we all thought I was having a boy (not for any particular reason) so were short on girls names.

And I can't think of any other combination for Ruby that I love more than Rose or Louise (potato).

Phew, does that make any sense or is it just confusing?

Nobody is going to think potato!! (although I do think that 'spud' would be a great nickname) I like Ruby Louise.

I looked after a mindee who had initials of RRR, same first name as you want, single syllable second name and 2 syllable third, it actually went well together.

Thankyou MNers, I think I will stick with it as I do love it.
