Still considering lots of names. Could I please gather some opinions on two more names?

Thanks!

I knew a french girl called Amandine, it's quite pretty, not that keen on the other one.

ravenAK · 06/05/2010 22:30

I know a very nice girl called Amandine - love it.

She's the singer with an ace band called The Eden House amandine ferrari. Lovely name.

oceryo · 06/05/2010 22:43

Amaryllis is great

Amandine is too similar to anodyne.

withorwithoutyou · 06/05/2010 22:45

My french friend pronounced her name
A-mon-deen, how would you pronounce it?

bellissima · 07/05/2010 09:04

Agree with oceryo re Anodyne.

Also, Is this the Way to Amaryllis...

What's wrong with Amanda?

Upgrade · 07/05/2010 09:18

Amandine is too like Amantadine (an anti viral drug). Weird.

Amaya is nice.

Amaryllis is nms, but I prefer it to amantadine.

CakeandRoses · 07/05/2010 09:48

Both are lovely and unusual. I think I prefer Amandine.

I personally wouldn't worry about the anodyne thing, its hardly the most likely thing that children would think of to tease about!

Plus, almost all names can be twisted into something silly.

tweedledumdum · 07/05/2010 19:07

As far as I know Amandine is pn as 'withorwithoutyou' says
A- mon- deen.

I don't think it sounds similar to anodyne personally.

I do agree that pn could definitely be an issue though and if it was pn wrongly, it could sound more like anodyne.

upgrade- I don't think many people are likely to have heard of amandatine and I don't think it is an anti viral anyway!

I love both of the names. They are pretty without being made up.

Both really pretty names!

ASmallBunchOfFlowers · 08/05/2010 19:55

I like most flower names but Amaryllis doesn't float my boat.

Amandine is the name of John Malkovich's daughter. I like it a lot.

Still like Minerva, though.

pointydog · 08/05/2010 20:09

They sound nice but I think they are a bit barking as names

suspiria · 08/05/2010 20:41

Amaryllis is beautiful,it's always been one of my favourite names

Horton · 08/05/2010 21:11

Amaryllis is gorgeous. What would you use as a nickname?

pointydog · 08/05/2010 22:30

Mary. Hey, why not call the kid Mary

pointydog · 08/05/2010 22:32

remember the craze for buying yoiur mum a 'grow you rown amaryllis' kit from woolies for Christmas and then the long gangly thing stood in the corner of the living room and you had to prop it up and it flowered some time after christmas when everyone had more or less forgotten about it?

not classy

oceryo · 08/05/2010 22:33

But that is retro pointydog. There's no Woolies now!

pointydog · 08/05/2010 22:34

yeah very retro. Does retro always mean good?

pointydog · 08/05/2010 22:56

fat stalked floppy plant, not great memory

tweedledumdum · 09/05/2010 11:45

pointy- I think the flowers are beautiful!
We were given one recently and it wasn't floppy and it lasted for ages!

Horton- I think Amaryllis would need a nn but not sure what- Mary maybe?!

Both lovely, slightly prefer Amandine for the French chic. I know of an Amaryllis known as Amy for short.

mopsyflopsy · 09/05/2010 20:34

Both beautiful names. I slightly prefer Amaryllis (as Amandine reminds me of almonds in French...).

tweedledumdum · 09/05/2010 22:38

Amy is a nice nn Gladioli!
