I think it suits Denise Van Outen as she always had that sort of end-of-the-pier-vaudeville thing about her, and Betsy is that kind of name (in my head, anyway). Granny chic isn't it?

midnightexpress · 04/05/2010 21:50

Like

Pancakeflipper · 04/05/2010 21:52

I like it. Very Enid Blyton. One of many names taken from Elizabeth. If I had a girl that was one option I was looking at though OH wasn't fond of Betsy.... Good job it's been boys so far then!

harley85 · 04/05/2010 21:55

i love it and betty too, im 35+3 and we've decided Elizabeth but i think i'll NN her betsy... cant have it for first name as surname starts with B and sounds awful together!

I like it when I heard it. It's really growing on me. The big BUT is that I watch too much Peppa Pig and it also reminds me of Grandpa Pig's lawn-mower (or was that Gertrude?).

usualsuspect · 04/05/2010 22:03

Nope

LetThereBeRock · 04/05/2010 22:03

Hate it.

harley85 · 04/05/2010 22:09

Gertrude is the train i think...

angel1976 · 04/05/2010 22:14

Bows to harley85... You must watch more Peppa Pig than me (didn't think that was posible! )!

lucy567 · 05/05/2010 10:14

I like it very old lady chic

SoozleQ · 05/05/2010 10:42

It's the nickname I gave to one of my friends who was an Elizabeth. I really like it - it would go with my surname.

Merrylegs · 05/05/2010 10:46

DS would have been Betsy.

Had he been a girl.

But he wasn't.

So isn't.

IYSWIM.

thumbwitch · 05/05/2010 10:47

My MIL's dog is called Betsy - wouldn't work for me.

LuluF · 05/05/2010 11:01

I like Betty/Betsy - don't know if Denise Van Outen is so much of a celeb that it will become really popular.

swanandduck · 05/05/2010 13:38

I agree it's a very Enid Blyton name. I think it's quite cute on a baby/toddler but not sure how it will work when she gets older.

Magaly · 05/05/2010 17:11

madmen

next up....... Joanie! (which I do like)

ilovesprouts · 05/05/2010 17:14

not keen ...but each to there own

Tidey · 05/05/2010 17:15

Trotwood.

LuluF · 05/05/2010 17:17

I heard of a Joanie/Joni in a play park the other day. Reminded me of Happy Days and Joni Mitchell - which is no bad thing (in my opinion). I think with Betsy - it's the teenage years that are the problem - cute as a child and then a fine name as an adult, but there's the time in between...

Paulinespens · 05/05/2010 18:05

The only Betsy I have ever known was my great grandmother. I have visions from childhood of a very small, very round old lady with a beard to rival Father Christmas and a rather strong smell of antiseptic and urine lingering about her person.
Nope...not keen on Granny chic as a rule and this name is no exception.

Rockbird · 06/05/2010 09:56

Vomit inducing. Betty much better and less sugary

missyfafa · 06/05/2010 18:54

I love it! I wanted it for our baby but my husband said no. Have managed to name the kitten it though!

oceryo · 06/05/2010 19:14

Prefer Betty or Beth.
