Flower, plant or tree names for boys?

Psammead · 03/05/2010 20:27

Our DD has Rowan as her middle name - it has various meanings for us, and we like that it's a 'nature' name.

Not even pregnant yet - not even trying - but next time round if we did have a boy, I would like him to have a nature name too, as his middle name.

Any ideas? I thought of Bay and Heath so far...

bryony can be male or female

Hi, we tried to come up with similar nature/plant inspired middle name for ds, as like you we had done the same for dd, but we found it impossible. Rowan is the only one I can think of, but you've already used it. We seriously considered Hawthorn, especially as plenty of them grow around here. In the end I had an unplanned homebirth and we used the fantastic doctor's (who rushed here to our aid and did an amazing job)name.

How about Berry, Oak, Moss, Juniper or Willow?

I'm liking Aspen, Heath, Briar and Logan so far!

Nice to know there are some possibilities.

Plantagenet is magnificent! I don't think I'd be brave enough though!

I like Oleander. But no one ever agrees with me.

Psammead · 04/05/2010 17:00

I like that too, LadyThompson.

How about Hawk or Tiger?

LadyThompson · 04/05/2010 17:25

Yay! It's a proper name and everything. Very handsome. Just a bit of a change from Oliver or Alexander. It's a shrub I believe.

raphaelsmama · 04/05/2010 20:52

Rayn. its on my shortlist.

MudandRoses · 04/05/2010 21:00

Tor
Thyme
Larkin
Wren
Lief/Leif/Leaf

Psammead · 04/05/2010 22:07

Love Thyme! Wren is nice, a bird name though - but we could always change the tradition as it's not really a tradition yet!

I'm getting more and more into Oleander. Might even make the first name list!

Robin

LuluF · 05/05/2010 11:04

Love Moss - am I right in thinking it has same meaning as Matthew? Or did I just make it up?

helyg · 05/05/2010 11:09

Celyn is Welsh for holly and is commonly used as a boys' name.

GladioliBuckets · 05/05/2010 11:37

Wren is not very masculine though is it? Might as well call him Tit or Hen!

Psammead · 05/05/2010 11:43

That's interesting - I never thought of Wren as being particularly masculine or feminine. To be it's quite neutral.

TBH, it doesn't have to be a very masculine name. My DD has a very girly first name, and Rowan as her middle name, which I find balances the first name out somewhat. So this theoretical boy would probably have quite a 'manly' first name, and a softer middle name. We'll see!

Anyone else have any opinions on Wren?

Adair · 05/05/2010 11:45

Wren is nice, but I like longer names...
My boy is Sky but his full name is Skyler/Schuyler.
