We're trying to find a Polish girl's name that sounds good in both languages. Ania has already been used by my brother.

any ideas gratefully recieved!

Hi, it might be Lucyna thinking about it...Just one of those incorrigble spelling mistakes!
She gets called Lucy or pronounced Loosha?
Same with Danuta as she was also generally called Dana or Danusha.
A lot of this is where I have only really heard the name spoken not spelled.

Anyway another name; Janina.

Longtalljosie · 03/05/2010 21:29

Aneta?

SoupDragon · 03/05/2010 21:32

I worked with a polish Janet

SoupDragon · 03/05/2010 21:32

Missed the capital P. Sorry.

BikeRunSki · 03/05/2010 21:32

I know polish sisters called Sofia and Suzanna. Those might not be their spellings though.

skidoodly · 03/05/2010 22:06

well I used to know a Polish Anouk. It's a way nicer name than any of the names you're suggesting.

winnybella · 03/05/2010 23:35

I would think she changed her name, then.

And it is a nice name, but definitely not Polish, which is what OP was asking for.

Bonsoir · 03/05/2010 23:40

Kasia was a Polish mummy at our school gate

Linnet · 03/05/2010 23:45

I know a Renata, Magda, Martynka, Veronika, Maia, Patricja, Elzbieta, Wanda, Oliwia,Yulia and my all time favourite is Agnieszka pronounced ag-nershka I know a couple of girls named that and I think it's lovely. The two I know shorten it to Aga which is a popular nickname apparently.

I know a polish girl called Elitza which I think is lovely.

No idea is it's originally polish or not though.

Asher
Zosha

Rosebud05 · 04/05/2010 20:54

My dd's best friend at nursery is Magdalena, known as Maga ('g' pronounded like a soft 'j'). Beautiful name.

IlyJ · 19/06/2010 20:57

Asher is spelled Asia (pron. A-sha).

Izabella, Ewa (pron. Eva), Ala are all nice and easy for Brits to say. Dosia (pron. Dosha) is short for Dorota. Agnieszka is a tough one as yes people WILL pronounce is Ag-nershka, when it's softer than that - Ag-nie-sh-ka. It's my sister's name and she goes by Agi.

Maria is a classic Polish name, as are Ania, Magda, Kasia, Halina (love this one).

Skidoodly - that's a bit rude.

sharbiebowtiesarecool · 19/06/2010 21:02

my cousins' name is Stenia (pronounced Stenya)

Ola is also nice

Needaname · 19/06/2010 21:11

Ela (Ella) is used as short for Elzbieta (Elizabeth in Polish) almost always.

pebblejones · 19/06/2010 21:18

I know a Zosia (pronounced zoh-sha), she sometimes calls herself Sophie, I think it's lovely.
Pebble

Magalyxyz · 19/06/2010 23:52

proudfoot · 21/06/2010 22:01

Missus84 · 21/06/2010 23:50

Love Ewa (pronounced Evva rather than Eeva by the Ewa I know)and Kasia.

Lily311 · 24/06/2010 14:33

I love the name of Aniela (saw it in a POlish cementary) though Polish people say it's very old fashioned. I like Karolina as well Karina (not sure if it's Polish).
