Need inspiration: classic but interesting boys names?

I am expecting DS1 in June and although DH and I had come up with a list as long as your arm of girls names that we loved, we have so far failed to find any boys name that have that 'wow factor' for us.

Our shortlist so far consists of:
George, Jack, Alexander, Edward (nn Eddie) and Samuel (nn Sam)

Our surname is Stewart. Even though I don't like it we have to have Robert as a middle name as it's been in DH's family for the last million years apparently, but we've agreed that we can also have my grandfather's name, Joseph. So, the name would end up being:
xxxxxxxx Robert Joseph Stewart.

If anyone has any inspiring first name sugestions then I'd love to hear them!!

Jacob
Laurence
Peter
Tobias/Toby
Lucas
Adam
Daniel
Michael
John/Jonathan
Joel
Frederick
N athan

I was going to say Albert (nn Alby), but not with Robert as a middle name.

GladioliBuckets · 28/04/2010 17:35

Rufus
Duncan (Shakespeare)

Scotster · 28/04/2010 17:37

I really like Lucas but as it ends in S it would run into our surname, plus the whole thing would sound a bit ooo-y IYSWIM (Lucas Stewart)

I also really like Freddie as a name for a baby/child, but not sure it's really a 'proper' name for a grown up and I'm not keen on Frederick as the longer form - what do you think?

i personally think lucas works fine with your surname

ActuallyMyNamesMarina · 28/04/2010 17:52

Hector
Sebastian
Seth......even though you may not be a fan of first name amd surname beginning with same letter
Reuben
Nathanial
James
Andrew (Drew)
Dominic
Benedict

I really like George and Alexander best from your list

Jamieandhismagictorch · 28/04/2010 18:13

Matthew
Patrick

Of yours, I like all except George

Scotster · 28/04/2010 18:57

Hmm, maybe we'll have another think about Freddie as I hadn't thought about Rick as a grown-up nn. Might also think about Lucas again if it doesn't sound too weird with our surname...

if it helps: I know an adult "Fred" and a baby "Freddie" and I've never thought about the two names even being the same - they're such different people - and yet both names suit them perfectly!

Wolfblass · 28/04/2010 19:21

Gabriel
Beau
Sebastian
Lucas
Samuel
Issac
Jesse
Jude
Dominic
Saul

Personally Jack is far too popular for me, and i know alot of Freddies here too (very Alfie in this area)

Skegness · 28/04/2010 19:40

Choose Daniel. Then you will have the names of the 3 men/boys I love best (apart from my Dad) as your son's name!

teafortwo · 28/04/2010 19:47

Scotster,

I am quite very in love with a classic but interesting name. It is Amory... And... Amory Stewart sounds like he would be a particularly lovely chap to me....

Wolfblass · 28/04/2010 19:54

Oooh tea for two, that is lovely!!!!

teafortwo · 28/04/2010 20:18

Alan works well I think though there are some good suggestions here already

Magaly · 28/04/2010 22:24

Marcus

A good Roman Classic. I love it.

sophiesmummie · 28/04/2010 22:26

I like

George Stewart
Quentin Stewart
Adam Stewart
Benedict Stewart

I think Jack is too popular and Edward Stewart rhymes too much.

Clary · 28/04/2010 23:40

On yr list I very much like George and Edward. The others are fine too but a bit popular for my personal taste.

I also like
Arthur
Albert
Edwin
Angus
Henry
Freddie (can be Fred when older if you like)
Stanley
Sidney

oooh do you need/want a Scottish name? I also rather like Hamish and Fraser but am not Scottish at all.

mylovelymonster · 29/04/2010 00:00

Has no-one mentioned Gregory yet?
Or - Cameron, Connor

Scotster · 29/04/2010 16:46

Wow, thanks very much for all your suggestions everyone. I agree that Jack is way too popular a name, though it's a shame as I've always loved it... Hadn't realised Freddie was going the same way though - typical!

I'm not averse to Scottish names as we live in Scotland, though neither of us are Scottish - quite like Clary's suggestion of Angus...

I had never heard of Amory - is it popular at the moment?

MaryMungo · 30/04/2010 11:45

We went with Edmund over Edward, what with all the Twilight stuff floating about

nighbynight · 30/04/2010 12:00

Amory is lovely.

Duncan, Mungo, Stanley...all a bit Victorian!
Anthony, Stephen, Iain.

kellze · 30/04/2010 12:09

Tristan? My very favourite boys name.

StrictlyKatty · 30/04/2010 13:01

Daniel Stewert sounds really lovely imo.

BlueChampagne · 30/04/2010 16:04

Justin doesn't come up very often
