It's a good name. Cool without trying to be but a proper name too. It'll last IMO.

hellymelly · 26/04/2010 21:27

Is Evan popular? I live in Wild Wales and I don't know any small Evans. The only one I know is my big brother!

SqueezyB · 27/04/2010 07:53

i like it, i don't think it's as popular as ted either, certainly not round here!

serenity · 27/04/2010 08:02

Only Evan I know is my nephew, and I really like it (and him!)

Magaly · 27/04/2010 08:20

there are a few in my dc's school. seems popular at the moment. i prefer Ivan.

MyThumbsHaveGoneWeird · 27/04/2010 19:04

When I was in school I remember being told that Evan was Welsh for John. But if that was true then it would be spelt Efan wouldn't it, and I've never seen that.

I really like it. Sounds classic and sensible but not boring.

Lionstar · 27/04/2010 19:33

the welsh spelling is Ifan.

i love it was nearly ds name by a narrow margin.

EssieAmma · 27/04/2010 20:14

Nerd alert.

Actually it is a version of Ioan/Iwan/Ifan/Ieuan all meaning John. From Latin (J negligible) Iohannes > Ioan / Ieuan and Ifan comes from that in medieval Welsh.

So yeah, it's John, but quite far removed. It's Ifan Anglicized which accounts for the v in it!

And I like it.

helyg · 27/04/2010 20:19

I live in wild Wales too, and my DD would have been Evan after DH's Dadcu (grandfather) if she had been a boy.

Which actually thinking about it would be a bit odd as technically we would have had 2 Johns (DS2 is Siôn, which is Welsh for John too).

A little boy in DD's class is called Efan (spelt that way) and I teach an Ifan. Lots of them around!

Anyway, I think it's a lovely name.

yummy28 · 14/05/2011 22:01

Oh Def a lovely name I called my DS Evan Thomas and it really suits him. Everyone says how nice it is.

Hdgygrl · 15/05/2011 11:49

I really like Evan, Eoin/Owen are good names too and reasonably similar. Good luck!

MercurySoccer · 15/05/2011 12:00

I like Evan, and prefer it to Ted.

daisybear · 15/05/2011 12:10

i like Evan Smile

RickGhastley · 15/05/2011 12:24

Love it (I have one!) and have only ever met one other boy named Evan, that was in Wales.

If you are looking for something like Evan, I think that Euan, Ivan and Owen or Ren (Taren?) are also very nice names.

MelinaM · 15/05/2011 15:59

I prefer Ted (Edward /Theodore)Smile Evan is rather 'surnamey', and sounds quite American ...yes I do know that it isn't!

wheniwishuponastar · 15/05/2011 17:44

I really really like it.
