One of my best friends has decided to call her daughter this.
What do you think? I love it but am slightly concerned that it will be shortened to Lav

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Shaz10 · 24/04/2010 22:04

Or Lavvy!

paisleyleaf · 24/04/2010 22:06

LOL she will be Lav!

padraig · 24/04/2010 22:15

I guess at a stretch you could have Vee as a nn?

Idk, I don't like or dislike it tbh.

debaronz · 24/04/2010 22:35

Sorry but I don't like it.

doubleexpresso · 24/04/2010 22:49
Hmm
muminthemiddle · 26/04/2010 21:41

I don't like it but it is her choice.

telsa · 26/04/2010 23:02

I quite like it - conjures up a nice smell and colour at least. I guess I might think it was Lavinda or Lavinia.

Lubyloo · 26/04/2010 23:04

She's going to get teased at school

flibbertigibbert · 27/04/2010 01:28

I think it's lovely. But I'm not sure you could pull it off unless you live in a large country house and are very horsey and write for Country Living.

bellissima · 27/04/2010 07:09

Hmmm - she could have a 'Lavender marriage'.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 27/04/2010 07:26

I have a friend called Lavinia and it is beautiful, and so is she, I don't think I've ever heard anyone call he Lav

So Lavender could work too?!

twosofar · 27/04/2010 08:20

I know of an adult Lavender.. I always thought it was quite pretty.

There is also a Lavender in Harry Potter so I really don't think kids will be that surprised/amused by it as a name.

As for Lav as a nickname - probably will occur but I'd be shocked if you could find me a child who used or even knew the word lavatory!

Do kids really get bullied for their names at school anymore??? I'd find that pretty weird where I live (East Dulwich - London) where the ethnic mix in schools is such that virtually every name you hear is something unusual

Magaly · 27/04/2010 09:29

There is a Lavender in Roald Dahl's Matilda as well.

I like it but the 'lav' in it puts me off. I wouldn't think it was an awful choice though. I just personally would be put off by the first syllable being the same as a word for a toilet. Maybe that's silly.

CakeandRoses · 27/04/2010 11:52

I think it's lovely and agree with everything that twosofar says.

She could cultivate Ven or Vivi as nns.
