Please, please tell me you like Abby...

We have thought long and hard about a girls name and have (finally) agreed on Abby.

I know there will be some who say we should just go for Abigail with Abby as a shortened name but I really Abby just as it is.

Will we regret it?

Same, I also like Abigail w Abby for short. Whenever I hear Abigail I just think "beguiling", such a lovely name.

I like it but I would five Abigail on birth cert to give her options when she is older. It's a very pretty name.

Abigail means "father's joy" which makes me feel a bit sad that Abi's have a name that means "father"!

I like it, although I do prefer Abigail with Abby for short, and people might assume it's short for Abigail. What's putting you off using Abigail?

I prefer the Abi spelling.

Personally I prefer Abbie.

My friend is Becky (ie not Rebecca) and even though she loves Becky she wishes she was Rebecca to be formal sometimes.

DP's 4yo sister is called Abbi. Just Abbi - although people tend to assume she's shortened from Abigail.

Lots of Abbies around. It has been really popular hear for quite some time (Abbie next door is 11). I love the meaning of Abigail and would have had it for DC3 if it had been a girl.

Glad so many people like it! I am an Abigail/Abi - Abby is fine, but I very glad my parents gave me Abigail so I could have a few options.

I agree with you that Abby is lovely on its own, just as it is.
If you're concerned about her not having options when she's older there's nothing to stop her calling herself Abigail, unofficially. Though I think Abby works well as an adult name, too.

I know a couple of Abbys-not Abigails so seems fine to me.

I am an Abby (christened Abigail) and much prefer Abby - I NEVER use Abigail as absolutely hate it, and like the spelling I use (although my Mum spelt it Abi when I was younger and I went through phase of spelling it Abbie). Don't know anyone else with same name - go for it!

I have an Abbie, shortened from Abigail. Really suits DD and don't know any others around here.

We knew an Abbey (not Abigail) when we lived abroad. You should go with your gut instinct although I have a name that could be longer and have spent a lifetime saying "No, it's just , it's not short for " but tbh it's hardly a problem

I love Abby (but would spell it Abi) and personally think Abigail is an awful name so wouldn't hesitate in just using the shortened version. Go for it and congratulations!

I like Abby, but Abigail on the birth certificate. Good for when she is being naughty and you can say in a stern voice 'Ab-i-gail!' (the elongated version of names always works well for letting children know you mean business, or it did in our family anyway!)
