Tobias?

If we have a boy we are thinking about calling him Tobias - we narrowed this down from loads of names and both really like it. However, am ultra paranoid about giving DC a "weird" name which will result in bullying in school, and ridicule in later life. (Tobias will be "sunday" name, I imagine he'll actually get called Toby)

What do you think and reasons?

I never really understand why parents have one name on a birth certificate but call their kids a NN (Jakob=jake/Oliver=olly/Thomas= Tom - why not just have the name you intend to use on the BC?? can someone enlighten me??

I like it.

That Tobias on BGT was lovely

Also I love Arrested Development

Manda25 Sheer snobbery I think it looks and sounds better to have a proper grown up name officially, and then shorten it for everyday life. Of course if it's a girl it will be Sophie so that theory falls down there

I like Tobias, more so than Toby which is quite common where I live.
Not too out there imo.

Tobias is lovely

lagrandissima · 25/04/2010 08:17

Love it.

German name - pronounced To-BEE-ahs

Where I am it is not unusual and certainly not seen as too posh or stuck up. I think it works fine in the UK too - I have a relative in UK called Toby (full name) which hasn't caused problems.

I quite like it and if you love it then go for it

I too like the idea of a Sunday best name and an everyday name. Toby is a lovely name and, whilst Tobias is a bit of a mouthful for daily use, its not particularly out of the ordinary.
