Just makes me think of popes to be honest. Is it a very different name to the current one? Might be quite confusing for your son if so.

janeite · 17/04/2010 23:25

I think it would be confusing for him. Then again, my opinion is probably clouded by the fact that one of the naughtiest pupils I ever taught (loveable rogue - I liked him a lot; just failed to teach him much) was called John Paul!

blinks · 17/04/2010 23:26

you can put a new name put in front of the old name if that would make you feel better... that way the old name would become a middle name and not too much of a change.

i had that done when i was little as my mum didn't feel the original name was right.

motherlovebone · 17/04/2010 23:29

Tis different to Frederick.

though everyone calls him Andre

am just really unhappy with his names.

Jon and Paul are trad lovebone family names which suit him so well.

make it 'Jon-Paul Andre Lovebone' then.

what's the big problem?

CakeandRoses · 19/04/2010 10:29

It probably would be a bit confusing for your son but at 18m you can maybe just get away with it. Any later and I think it wouldn't be fair as he would have really identified with his name.

mathanxiety · 19/04/2010 15:16

If this has been on your mind for so long, then go for it. Don't leave it too much longer though, so your DS can settle into it.

LittleMissWorryHead · 19/04/2010 16:14

Well I wouldn't.

They recognise their own name from about 7 months, so i think its too late......

I went through a stage of wanting to change my LO name, but I didn't in the end, as he knew his name, it would have been incredibly selfish.

Jamieandhismagictorch · 19/04/2010 16:49

Hmm. I suspect it's unfairly late.

nooka · 20/04/2010 04:38

If everyone calls him Andre, wouldn't it make more sense to rename him that if you are going down the deed poll route? It doesn't seem to make very much sense to rename him something that won't in any case be used.

seeker · 20/04/2010 06:15

If everyone calles him Andre, why would you change his name to Jon-Paul-or am I being particularly thick?

TheLadyEvenstar · 20/04/2010 06:32

So his name is Frederick (love it by the way), Everyone calls him Andre and you want to change his name to Jon Paul???
Why doesn't anyone call him by his name? Is Andre his middle name or just one picked from mid air?

I think it is total madness to consider it at 18m, let HIM decide when he is older and probably confused when he realises his name is not Andre but Frederick....

gorionine · 20/04/2010 06:39

I am thinking as Seeker.
