So which of the above for baby No3? We seem to be quite into nicknames in our family, so would probably end up with Mimi/Miri, Immy or Edie.

My Imogen is a Mimi too

lowrib · 17/04/2010 00:28

Miranda / Mimi is lovely. I like Edith / Edie too.

twosofar · 17/04/2010 08:17

I LOVE Edith. If am ever lucky enough to conceive a DD I would love her to be Edith

GladioliBuckets · 17/04/2010 15:27

Miranda is timeless (well, from Shakespeare onwards anyway.) In 20yrs time old lady names like Edith will have us all a bit . Imogen too Top10 for my liking.

SE13Mummy · 17/04/2010 22:56

I love Imogen and Edith, the only Imogen I know (SE London) is known as Mo which is a nickname I love. Our Miriam has Mim as a nn.

edam · 17/04/2010 23:04

Edith is lovely. My friend's daughter's name - and she's a gorgeous little girl.

Clary · 18/04/2010 00:29

I love the name Edith

The one I know does not tend to be nicknamed but obv it is possible.

Miranda and Imogen are both nice too.

No help am I!

Let's see - in terms of popularity for u11s, I personally know one Edith, one Miranda and three Imogens. So fairly low numbers all round.

Gladioli if we are blushing at old lady names in 20 years there will be a lot of red cheeks. Round my way you can't heave a brick without hitting Grace, Lily, Milly, Maisie, Elsie, Violet, Iris, Eleanor etc. All lovely names btw.

They will be no more emabarrassing than being called Tracey or Karen on Trica is if you are 40 today.

TheNextMrsDepp · 18/04/2010 00:41

Edith - gorgeous! It's the sort of name that will have your parents cringing, of course, because they will associate it with their great-aunties. Agree with Clary, my middle name is Jayne, how embarrassingly 1960s can you get?

Smilehighclub · 18/04/2010 00:56

Love Miranda.

then Imogen.

'don't get the Edith = gorgeous thing at all. Edith = little old dear.

tortoiseonthehalfshell · 18/04/2010 01:43

I have an Edith (Edith Clare)who is always Edie. Really like Imogen but we rejected as too trendy (and Imogen Bailey). Like Miranda too and Miranda Esther is probably the best combo.

What are your other daughters called?

jabberwocky · 18/04/2010 03:03

Miranda, definitely

Pollyanna · 18/04/2010 06:09

I like all of them actually, but Miranda is my favourite I think.

ReneRusso · 18/04/2010 06:17

Edith then Miranda then Imogen

brimfull · 18/04/2010 06:50

Imogen

biscuitbear · 18/04/2010 09:54

I like all your names. Imogen and Edith my faves.

weepootle · 18/04/2010 09:56

Imogen. For me, Edith is probably the most ugly name in existance.

GladioliBuckets · 18/04/2010 10:36

I met a lady once called Editha (pron like editor with a th) which has all the ancient origins but a bit more sex appeal I think.

pointydog · 18/04/2010 10:47

I love the sound of Edith but it has such old-age connotations. I'd still choose it out of your options

foodfairy · 18/04/2010 13:19

Ohhh, lots of helpful advice. Imogen and Edith both seem to be marmite names, haven't seen any bad things about Miranda, but maybe a bit less positive generally.

Think it might be a case of sticking them all in a hat and picking. . .

Love edith and miranda I know lots of imogens so although nice more common

lovechoc · 18/04/2010 19:19

I like Miranda

Paulinespens · 19/04/2010 19:56

Imogen is becoming very common these days. I know of 3 all under the age of two years.
It's a nice name but I prefer Miranda.
Edith reminds me of an incontinent old lady.

jamimmi · 25/05/2010 13:04

Hi I love both names, but was put off Eliza by the abriviations, I have an Immi who is nearly 3 and I've still to meet another in our part of the Fylde. We often abriviate further to Ims as well.

LuluF · 25/05/2010 13:34

I like Imogen - but would be put off by the amount of Imogens that there seem to be - VERY popular here - we're in the East, if that helps.

swanandduck · 25/05/2010 13:40

I love Miranda and Imogen. I'm another one who doesn't 'get' Edith. But then I'm not a fan, in general, of the new trend for old lady names.
