How do you pronounce Felicia? Is it fel-EE-sha? or fel-ISS-ee-a?

And what do you think of Sharnessa? I know it is a made up name. A girl called this was in a band I LOVED when I was younger. What kind of impression does it give you?

Kwame and Garvey are nice.

I like Garvey too - but it reminds me of that Victor Lewis-Smith sketch

I like Kwame too.

I didn't mean it as in needing a 'black' or 'white' name Dinah and I hope I didn't offend. What I meant was, if you have a name which is strongly associated in lots of people's minds with a particular group or culture, and you're not, then that might cause problems/odd reactions.

Rebecca say, or Thomas, are real go-anywhere names (especially in all the different spellings). I wouldn't have fixed expectations about what she/he would be like, in terms of race or nationality.

You tell me your name is Sergey and I'd think it a bit odd if there wasn't an eastern european connection. If you say you're name is D'Shawn, I'm going to assume you're American. It's probably wrong, but people do associate names with places and cultures. Sharnessa sounds very very American to me, and very urban American (i.e. I'd be surprised if she grew up in Kentucky or somewhere, I'd assume a coast). Great if you are, might produce odd reactions if you're not...
