Names to go with DS1 Felix

CakeandRoses · 14/04/2010 17:23

We've got 1 DS called Felix and we're expecting DC2 in July. DH and I have pretty much agreed on Caspar for another boy but can not agree on any girls names!

These are the ones I'm considering, I'd love your thoughts on which you like and works best with Felix.

Here goes:

Aurelia
Violet
Angelie
Arabella
Saffron
Lucilla
Mariella
Angelica
Ariella

As you can see, there's a big Latin/Angel/ending in A thing going on here.

Thank you!

Violet is the only girls name I ilke from that list, it's one of my favourite names at the moment.

cece · 14/04/2010 17:35

Aurelia - how do you say it?
Violet - pretty
Angelie - is this a variation on Angela? Looks like you have spelt Angela wrong.
Arabella - like this one
Saffron - too much of an ingredient name to me
Lucilla - how do you say this one?
Mariella - OK
Angelica - another ingredient name...
Ariella - another one that I am not sure how to pronounce...

sorry can't be more positive! but I like Violet of Arabella out of your list.

randomimposter · 14/04/2010 21:13

Violet or Aurelia for me. Both work well with Felix I think. Congrats.

dizzydixies · 14/04/2010 21:31

Violet for me too

how about

Celia
Celeste
Saskia
Penelope

roselover · 14/04/2010 22:40

my little girl is clementine - we love it

LaDiDaDi · 14/04/2010 22:43

Aurelia.

BlueBumedFly · 14/04/2010 22:46

roselover - we have a clementine too, we also love it!!

From the list really like Saffron and Lucilla

delphinedownunder · 14/04/2010 23:06

Aurelia or Violet for me. I teach a little boy called Felix and his sister is Tara, which i think is quite sweet.

PiratePrincess · 14/04/2010 23:10

My DB and DSis are Felix and Rosamond - lovely names, I think

magbags · 15/04/2010 09:02

I have Felix and Grace if that helps. From your list I like Violet best. Congrat's and Good Luck

ozmetric · 15/04/2010 10:49

Aurelia - not keen
Violet - like
Angelie - prefer Angela
Arabella - like
Saffron - not keen
Lucilla - prefer Lucy, Lucia or even Lucille (Lucilla is too much like Priscilla and Drusilla)
Mariella - prefer Maria or Ella
Angelica - quite like
Ariella - prefer Arabella or Arianna

chiccadee · 15/04/2010 21:25

Aurelia is nice and goes well with Felix.

Violet always brings to mind Violet Beauregard (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory).

Agree that Angelie looks like a typo - unless said in a French accent.

Arabella OK - will end up being Arry for short tho.

Saffron will get shortened to Saffie, a la Ab Fab.

Prefer Lucille to Lucilla. Keep thinking of Druscilla!

Mariella, Angelica and Ariella OK but a bit fussy compared to Felix.

Gosh, thanks everyone! This is certainly food for thought.

I find it fascinating how everyone views names so differently. I don't expect everyone to like my name choices, in fact, that's what makes certain names less popular - which is a good thing in my book!

What's very useful is to find out that there's a weird or negative connotation to a name or a name that no-one seems to like at all! E.g. I hadn't thought that Angelie would seem like a mispelt Angela, I thought it would seem like a more delicate, less unwieldy name than Angelina/Angelica

I was so suprised that two of you suggested Clementine as that's a name DH and I have bandied around for yonks. I'm not sure why I didn't short-list it above. I guess our doubts with Clementine are:

  1. Will it suddenly become v popular? It seems exceedingly popular on MN (on another thread someone said they knew 6 of them!!) But that isn't reflected in the names stats at all. Odd eh?
  1. Kinda the opposite to #1 above: we thought we'd be the only people that would like it and everyone else would think it a little weird (being the name of a fruit and also quite long).

Parents of Clementines: what has been the reaction to the name from others? Also, I assume 'Clemen-tyne' (to rhyme with 'mine')is the right pronunciation but do you get a lot of people saying 'Clemen-tine' instead?

My amended shortlist in light of your comments:

Aurelia *

Arabella

Saffron

Mariella

Angelica

Clementine

  • Parents of Aurelias: would love to know the reaction you've had from others to the name. Also how do you pronounce it (I've seen about three different ways)? Do you use a nickname, if so, what?

I've had to remove Violet, annoyingly, as it was one of your most popular names of my list and I loved it, particularly as it seemed the best match for Felix. DH has just informed me that it was the name of a wicked Great Grandmother in his family so would not go down well! If anyone has a sweet, two-syllable, unusual alternative to Violet I'd been very grateful!

My DH's shortlist is:

Girls:
Matilda
Amity
Plus Clementine and Arabella from my list

Boys:
William
Albert
Plus Caspar from my list

Although, there's no chance of me agreeing to any of his name choices that aren't on my list above (not being horrid, they're just not for me at all), he would like your feedback on them anyway please.

Sorry this is soooo long!

Thank you!!

I like Clementine, Arabella, William, Caspar

I don't like Matilda, Amity, Albert

happymum2010 · 16/04/2010 11:04

i would go for Angelie

Aurelia dont like it at all
Violet like the purple colour in french and i don't like that kind of name (flower, colour...names)
Angelie love it
Arabella hate it
Saffron sound a bit like the spice food
Lucilla sound all don't really like it
Mariella ok but i'm not in love
Angelica like it but prefer angelie
Ariella sound to much like the lessive pounder

randomimposter · 16/04/2010 11:47

I have a William, and a future DD would be Clemency Genevieve. Clemency seems a bit less sweet than Clementine, so would grow better? Also no doubt on pronunciation.

A future DS would probably be Jerome Gregory.

Really like Amity actually.

BlueBumedFly · 16/04/2010 14:11

We do have some mispronounciations (sp?) with Clementine but most reactions are that people love it.

Only teenagers seem to feel the need to make the fruit reference. The older generation all tell me that Clementine was the name of the wife of Sir Winston Churchill, which of course we new and she was name with this strong lady in mind. Very old people do on the odd occasion sing (Oh my darling, oh my darling) but that is quite sweet.

If people say Clemen'teeeen' I just say 'tyne' at which point they get it.

She is also Clemmie, Clem, Clembo, Clembles, Clemsie and Clembelina Ballerina.

I think most importantly the name is from Clemency not the fruit stall.

seimum · 16/04/2010 14:21

I like Aurelia & Matilda.

Amity - reminds me of the film (Amityville)

Have you considered Felicity (or is that too much of a match for Felix?)

cece · 16/04/2010 23:23

Can I suggest

Verity

or

Una

both on our list but we had a boy.
