So sick of baby name books; please help: Josie or Celia

Josie and Ceila are our 2 shortlisted names. Josie would be used but short for Josephine in case it's too babyish when she gets older.

Husband and I have been through so many discussions on names I almost can't face thinking about it anymore and really want your help.

Is Josie at all (sorry for using the word, was quoted at me by my awful brother) chavvy? Or should we ignore my brother and his Aurelia-naming North London baby ways?

Which do you prefer?

Any thought on a middle name to go with either graciously and happily welcomed.

Thank you!

Celia wins for me

bellissima · 14/04/2010 12:00

Celia Josephine
Celia Kate

Josephine Elizabeth
Josephine Pearl

NOT either Celia or Josephine Rose/Grace/May/Mae/Joy

(Josephine is in fact a mn of one of my DDs, but I prefer Celia - just - as a first name)

Hmm, two lovely names. Think I slightly prefer Josie, but you should wait to see the baby and decide because they are both so nice!

birdofthenorth · 14/04/2010 12:13

Josie!

JosephineClaire · 14/04/2010 13:01

Naturally I'm biased, but I do love my name

I can strongly recommend Josephine Claire (I'm actually Josephine Claire Elizabeth in full)

I've also always liked the fact that there were never millions of other Josephines around - only met a couple in my life so far (and I love sharing my name with Jo from Little Women)

Although, as I child I hated people shortening my name to Josie, and always insisted that everyone call me Josephine

You may love Josie, but your DD may not...

jellybeans · 14/04/2010 13:19

Josie. Love Josephine too. Really dislike Celia, too old lady. Cecily nicer.

bellissima · 14/04/2010 13:51

Ooh yes Josephine Claire Elizabeth - even better than Josephine Elizabeth... (not that we are putting pressure on you, OP....as most say, both names good...)

Another vote for Josephine/Josie here - it is on our list! And absolutely not chav, in fact I would say the one thing putting me off using the name is it is slightly posh - but then I think I must have a bee in my bonnet about names being posh-sounding as that's what's putting me off Imogen and noone else seems to agree!

If we go for the name ours will be Josephine May. Other nice middle names - Josephine Louise or Josephine Isabel?

cece · 14/04/2010 17:43

I prefer Josie out of the two

Magaly · 14/04/2010 17:48

I really like Celia. I'm not sure about Josie, but I don't hate it. hth!

Magaly · 14/04/2010 17:49

What about Posie Squeezy!? that is gorgeous. Is it too matchy matchy with Polly though?

skidoodly · 14/04/2010 19:11

Josie Ramona

yeah, a female Joey Ramone

maaam · 16/04/2010 15:18

Thanks everyone! Josie edging it but if she looks like a Celia then we can change our minds after she's born. That doesn't apply in a wider sense - ie if she comes out looking like Winston Churchill it's still Josie/Celia

Still undecided on the middle name - I know, I know, no one will ever notice it but would be nice to have one. Perhaps the midwife will have a nice name or something. Josephine Claire would have been good apart from rules about not favouring various sisters and cousins in naming (all nonsense but touchy families are touchy families).

She's going to come out looking like my Great Uncle Tommy (all babies do).

May I suggest Josephine Thomasina?
