Nicole- Too old sounding for a baby

pigleychez · 12/04/2010 16:57

I quite like the name Nicole but worry it sounds too old for a little one?

Think it would suit a grown woman but would it sound right at nursery/ primary age?

Do you know any Nicole's? How old are they?

I kno 2 Nicoles, one's 10 snd the other's 32. IMO it's much better to give a baby a name he/she will grow into than one that will seem silly before the end of primary school. Nicole's pretty and quite unusual

DrivenToDistraction · 12/04/2010 17:11

The only Nicole I know it two weeks older than DD, so just under 2 1/2.

Agree with tabbycat

5inthebed · 12/04/2010 17:12

I think it is a very pretty name whatever the age.

AMumInScotland · 12/04/2010 17:13

You could always shorten it to Nic or Nicky when she's little, and leave her the option of Nicole when she decides she wants to be more sophisticated.

minimoos · 12/04/2010 17:16

My niece is Nicole and she's 9. It's a lovely name and has suited her from when she was tiny. She get nn'd Nicky which is also sweet. I love it.

ByTheSea · 12/04/2010 17:20

My DD has a variation on the name but I love Nicole as well. DD gets shortened to Nicky by her friends.

KAEKAE · 12/04/2010 17:36

I don't like it, not very pretty at all. Much nicer names out there and I do think it sounds too old for a baby...but then she won't be a baby forever!

CelticStarlight · 12/04/2010 18:08

Not keen at all TBH, it has a Nathalie/Natasha vibe to me, none of which I'm keen on, it does sound a bit too old for a baby too, but then lots of names do.

seeker · 12/04/2010 18:10

Better to have a name that sounds a bit too grown up for 2 years than a name that is only suitable for a baby for 75 years!

5DollarShake · 12/04/2010 19:18

I'd far rather go with a 'grown up' name like Nicole (although I don't think it is any more grown up than any other name), than a name which I perceive as being for a little girl, like Daisy or Lola.

She will be a teen/adult far longer than she will be a little girl.

MrsBadger · 12/04/2010 19:26

I like Nicole (and echo 'better than Daisy/Millie/Poppy' etc comments) but worry about how it sounds in my native London accent

'Nicoaaauuuoow! Ge' over 'ere!'

AllieW · 12/04/2010 19:38

Don't let her call her Dad Papa!

Not keen, sorry. I always seem to end up thinking Nick + hole for some reason, which just sounds rude.

MamaVoo · 12/04/2010 19:39

There was a pretty little baby Nicole at a group I used to take DS too. It really suited her. I don't think of it as an old name at all (even though it's my MIL's name).

Mylittlebubble · 12/04/2010 19:54

I love it and would love to use it but my Dh isn't keen. I actually thought it was becoming popoular, obviously not.

Cousel · 12/04/2010 19:59

if you like it, it doesn't matter what anyway esle thinks, its not ever so popular which is handy at playgroups etc, and you can also come up with a pet/short name until she grows up!

bigstripeytiger · 12/04/2010 20:00

I think that Nicole is a lovely name. I dont think that it sounds old, but would be good for an adult as well as for a baby.

GinSlinger · 12/04/2010 20:00

she's going to be older for a lot longer than she's a baby. You're naming a person. And it's a lovely name.

Stars22 · 12/04/2010 20:03

I really like it, much better than Nicola. I dont no anyone called Nicole, i know a 10 year old that is called Louise Nicole.

LittleMissWorryHead · 12/04/2010 20:33

Nicole is one of my all time favourite names - I wish I was called Nicole!!!

Fabulous - go for it!!!

bellissima · 13/04/2010 09:00

I don't like it - sorry, to me it's not quite the lap dancer, but the waitress in the cocktail bar.

swanandduck · 13/04/2010 12:18

I think it's quite nice and would equally suit a little girl or an adult.

moominmarvellous · 19/04/2010 18:13

I love it, it's the name of one of my closest friends and also my DD's middle name.

Were it not for that fact (friend might think I'm taking flattery to stalkerish levels!), I'd be considering it for DC2.

I think it's very pretty.

AbFabT · 19/04/2010 22:39

Coco is cute as a nn for Nicole.

birdofthenorth · 20/04/2010 11:18

I love Nicole but sadly DH doesn't. I think it'd suit a girl or an adult equally -though if you don't like the nns Nic, Nics, Nicky, Coley etc you may have to grit your teeth through her teens!

cumbria81 · 20/04/2010 11:37

I like it. Your DD will be a baby for a tiny fraction of her life and an adult for most of it so far better to call her something sensible than Milly Molly Mandy.
